In my opinion parking is one of the biggest headaches in this business, except for maybe weekend night dispatch.
My last company del.to Petsmart and Kmart so parking behind these facilities won't look out of place.
Also when you del.or pu at a facility like americold or millard etc. note if they have a guard shack and if they allow overnight parking.
Then in the future you could use them as future parking spots you won't stand out and they usually won't bang on your door to
    determine your status,to busy.
Industrial parks are usefull because a lot of them have wide streets you can park along or vacant buildings.
I keep a log of the area around were I'm del.or pu for future reference.
This may sound excessive but I also keep a digital recording device that I use when I'm traveling to note parking places ,
like the wide spot alongside 71 between shreveport and Texarkana. That I later transcript to my log.

Not only that....Like I mentioned the cell phone...And others mentioned TS receipts...
ECM data can be subpoenaed as well...

It's pretty hard to be an Outlaw Trucker these days....
The Snowman would be doing time in the Pen for the way he runs now....

    Answer....

    Know your lanes....

With all of the publications....With all of the online trucker sites....With all of the Smartphone apps....The CB....So on....There are no excuses for anyone not to find parking in time.......

With some people here and their Victim mentality....One wonders how do they ever manage to get out of the rack every day without getting injured.....And then blaming "The System"....

The new proposed regulations which will require EOBR's in all trucks will include a requirement that if the company edits a log then the driver must be notified and approve of the edit. It's part of several rules and requirements being proposed in an effort to prevent companies from taking advantage of drivers and pushing them to use every possible minute of drive time.

I'm not a fan of requiring all truckers to have EOBR's. Seems like independent O/O's shouldn't have to cough up that kind of dough, but maybe if the price comes down it might actually be workable. My own experience moving from paper logs to e-logs is a positive one. It's a lot less hassle than filling out paperwork and certainly a more accurate reflection of my day.

lol, sometimes on my trip planning, depending how my shift, appointment time is, etc.... my plan suggests that I might be looking for one of those hard places to find or manufacturing my own place. now thats with a year of experience with my lanes. when i first started it was more learn on the fly. I will say that I've been tight finding a place in the past but after being out a year not so much anymore. My last recent adventure was running through west va. I pushed my self to use up my clock and ran into tight parking. drove around beckley for a while with no luck and then finally grabbed a pay spot at the TA south of Charleston. there were like two pay spots left.

I have found it more difficult to find parking in the winter. summer and weekends seem to be nicer to find parking spots.

My one problem with ELOGs for O/O's.....
We don't own the data on them.....
Much like now when you buy any new rig....You as the owner of that rig, don't have the rights to reprogram an ECM....

Eggzackly, except in a civil suit you're not going to jail jail, you're going to garnishment jail/hell for the remainder of your days. Those truck accident lawyers have paralegals who know the HOS inside-out and backwards.

Their client can rear-end a truck while stumbling drunk, but they will prove to the satisfaction of a jury that the crash was impossible if the truck was not illegally occupying that spot on the planet at that particular moment. Ca-ching.

Riiight. Just not so concerned you're going to observe speed limits, maintain an adequate following distance, or comply with the HOS.

    yeah, thats pretty much correct

i do not drive with an 8 second following distance

i do drive with the flow of traffic

and i do keep HOS, based upon when i am tired and when i am rested, NOT based upon some politician telling me what HE thinks I am tired and when i am rested

like i said, you can sit up all night at the strip club, for 10 hours and be legal to drive in the morning
you can get a good 8hrs sleep and be illegal

    i prefer being the latter

you can continue fooling yourself that the former is legal and safe, i am not that gullible nor docile
