I was thinking of you on Tuesday passingthru. I was driving through Kansas and there was a little trailer parked on the side of the road with a sign saying they had Thai food. I was hungry and wanted to stop but I figured my first Thai experience shouldn't be from a trailer in the middle of Kansas.

Martin, Went through your home area today. Call your wife and see if the dogs and the trash bins did'nt get blown away. Then ran into some strong big hail on the east side of Kc. this afternoon.
Made it to York, Ne. tonight. Long day. Shooting for Del. Fri. afternoon in Cheyenne.

Chris, saw one of your rgn trks. today going east on the west side of St.Louis on I70.
Had a mini J.D. tractor on it. Kinda funny all that empty well space and no other freight. Must of been going to the last stop

You never know, that might of had some real good Thai food. Sometimes the simple places beat the fancy ones.
Was it near a meat packing plant? if so you should of stopped. Alot of Thai and Lao are working at pack plants and are hungry after work and then the smart person opens a spot near them.
Kinda like a bar near an auto plant or steel mill

Nope...it was a dealer transfer from MO to an IL dealer near the QC. It was a good reposition load. Load today, unload today, grab another combine heading to Western Iowa. It is a different concept than the Heavy Haul mentality. RGN money down to the SL area, grab a quick reload that makes a profit, but gets you close to another RGN load. We still work the utilization angle with our RGNs, not just the MPM angle. I am struggling a little right now to keep up with the demand for my RGNs. I told JP today that I am only accepting loads leaving IA to places I know I have reloads. I need to send 7+ to Baltimore next week, one to West TX, one to NY, and one to Savannah, GA. I also have to figure out how to tarp an open crated machine that is 162L x 106W x 141H. Seems that there are opportunities are out there if you can stay lane disciplined.

I hear you on grabbing a fill in ld. I just thought it was odd, but makes bussiness sense.
Now for the crate, is it a metal frame or wood frame crate?
If metal open frame, grab plently of moving pads for the top of it. Pad the corners. Do they want it full tarped or just top tarped?
2 -24x24 tarps will do a good top tarp and most of the front. Full tarp cover and it will be 3. my rate is 250.00 a tarp. Because it takes time..
I have seen some guys drop the tarp inside of the crate as well. I have never tried that angle.

If you can't make money doing legal open deck right now you're doing something wrong. I keep track of many lanes on spot market and the only one that's not coming up is midwest-TX, and event that lane returns are improving if you have your heart set. Everything else is up, begging for trucks plenty of opportunity for negotiation on rates.

if it's open on the top, do your usual securement, then throw straps over the top and tighten. You will need a ladder. The straps will support the tarp and they will give the driver support too. Roll your tarps out crossways to the trailer, rear on first, overlapped by the front tarp. Be sure to overlap them by 4 ft or more and secure the front edges of the rear tarp to prevent the wind from pulling the rear tarp off.
