I started with McElroy right out of CDL school. Was there six months. Wrote a thread about my experiences there in the flatbed forum. It's titled "Start at McElroy on Monday". Only reason I left was b/c I wanted to pull tankers. Been driving for Tidewater Transit since August of last year. Oh, & TWT does hire CDL grads, by the way...if you live near a terminal. I think we have three or four in NC. The company's based in NC.

So far Schneider looks the top of the list for me for several reasons..

    1. They have tankers
    2. They take newbies
    3. The hometime
    4. They work with the VA so I can get my GI Bill benefits each month...

RevKev I actually read your McElroy thread and that is really what got looking in to them. I know where the TWT terminal is in Kinston (I drive past it a lot with my current job), I'll have to look in to them some more and them to the list of company's I need to call. The only thing I would wonder about Schneider is would be the home time.

Based on my extensive research so far, tanker driver opportunities for cdl grad newbies with zero exp are schneider bulk, ctl, trimac and stevens.

Pros: they all take new grads
Cons: schneider- you have to live within range even if its an otr route, ctl- not currently hiring and must be within hiring radius and recently had layoffs, trimac only hires from their "approved schools" if that even exist, stevens hires no prob but .25cpm, must convert cdl to txcdl...

TWT is definitely worth a look. I enjoy it here, & they do hire CDL grads. I find it to be a good company. Hometime will vary depending on the terminal. For instance, the guys that run out if the Savannah, GA terminal (according to what one of their drivers told me) are typically home every night, maybe gone one night every now & then. My terminal (Trinity, AL), it varies. I've had weeks where I've been home every night, some gone 2-4 nights, been gone all week, or like my current run --- left Tuesday morning, probably won't see home till next Friday. Mixing it up has it's advantages.

Ok so here's another question. My girlfriend and I are going to Disney World with some friends the week after thanksgiving and it is already paid for, do you guys think it would be better for me to wait till after that to start my path to driver or is that far enough away that I would be able to get the time off even if it's without pay?

Going by their website is says One year of over the road experience with a DOT certified carrier (preferred) and Professional driving school graduates considered. Not trying to sound like a smart ### just going by what it says.
