That's right NEVER say NEVER.... This isn't a framless trailer tho, it's got a frame....
I talked to my buddy today and he wasn't speeding... He was at a red light loaded with 31tons of material so grossing around 112,000lbs... So he wouldn't even be able to get up a lot of speed... 18 speed and he was still in the basement when he was making his turn... The combination of the top heavy trailer and the hump in the middle of the intersection is more then likely the cause.. These trailers sway a lot when making turns on flat road... He was only going about 14km/h... He did get charged but is fighting the ticket... Lots of cameras around and stuff so hopefully the charge will be dropped... They just need to do an investigation... -
Glad your friend is ok and keep us posted of the outcome. He will feel it tomorrow for sure I laid a frameless on the side as I was dumping a load and it went over on the drivers side. I was sore for a few days but as someone posted it is not if but when. And when it comes it is not fun.

As EZX1100 said, I, too, am thankful a 4-wheeler wasn't there to get "dumped" on. -
That's about all "rounded bottom" dump trailers are good for. Too little weight in the lower half, and too much in the upper half.

That's for sure... We have 4 of them (well 3 now if this one ends up being written off, dunno if frame is twisted or not.. All I can tell is it's marked up on the one side but the box is ok) .... I don't like them really which is why when I am on them I go super slow but you never know what can happen with these trailers even when you are going slow in a corner... This would be why I don't see many of them in my area.. Mostly steel ones hauling scrap..

Glad he is ok--and not gonna get into the whys and hows--but do have a bigger question--knowing the kind of work you are doing and knowing the dynamics of that kind of trailer--WHY--would a company spec that kind of equipment?
IMHO--you spec equipment to do a certain job--and there are much better options for this time of work? -
Well one of the problems is that we got idiots ordering equipment and not asking drivers what they think... The people in the offices think they know what is best even though they are not truckers or have never don't the particular job... We used to have normal box steel dumps that were shorter and wasn't rounded so the weight what even top to bottom... These trailers more weight is at the top.... Now as far as these trailers go they have been doing the job without a flip for 5 years or so... They are swaying trailer with weight that's for sure.. But we haven't had issues with them in 5 years... I could pretty much chalk to this situation up as bad luck.. We have a intersection where the road has arched (due to frost), possible that lift axle could have put a quick amount of air and cause this to roll, top heavy load and water could have cause it... Speed mixed in with the other factors maybe but 15km/hr is very slow on normal circumstances.. The weird thing is it flipped when he was straight onto the street he was turing left onto and he was grabbing 5th gear.. So why it flipped then is weird..
If I were to be speccing trailers for this organic material it would be a live bottom belt trailer.. No need for lifting the trailer and off loads just as fast as the dump... Must safer no need to worry about tipping.. The trailers are equal widths top to bottom... You can order them with a blade inside that moves with the belt to clean out the sidewalls and conveyor belt. But I'm just a company driver who doesn't know what is best for the job that I do lol.. The people sitting behind the desk that make the orders know better
