The top is solid with a metal framing for the sides. He is going to use three 16 x 27 steel tarps. Tarps 1 & 2 will be tied together in the middle on the top of the crate, dropping all the way to the deck of the trailer. They will start at the front edge of the side of the crate and wrap around and completely cover the back of the crate. Tarp #3 will start at the deck go up the front of the crate and cover almost all of the top. This should create 4' of overlap on the sides. He has a bunch of moving blankets to cover the top, and a good deal of rope. Thanks for the suggestions.

    passingthru69 Thanks this.

Tell him to grab some bunjees as well. Helps take up some of the slack.
If at the port in Dundalk, they might not lift him up to tarp. Have him talk real nice about getting the tarps on the top of the crate. Depends on their mood. The guys at Norfolk were real nice and had a lift to help us last time we were there.

Well flatbed fans, Guess who gets stuck in Cheyenne for the wkend...
We called this morning to let them know we would be there @ 2pm. Ok, but we are not unlding today. Huh?
High winds I was told. Gee who would of thought there would be wind in Wy. sarcism...
So we get in town and they said no unlding and no you can't drop on site.. Ok. Then 10 mins. later, bring it on over and you can drop the trl. Ok
We get there and there are 3 other lds. as well dropped.
So I call into the office and tell them and ask about detention time.
Well no detention time I'm told. Huh. I said other big jobs or small, you give them a day and if no unlding we bill and get detention.. Nope, big contract and it is nature..
I said who ever agreed to that was an idiot..
Getting real close to telling them to K.M.A..:biggrin_25510:

  6. I should of yelled earlier about the 30+ in Cheyenne. Crane guys hate anything over 5 mph.

I saw your post about heading to Cheyenne for Friday.

Well the wife and I spent yesterday at MATS. Ordered some new goodies for the truck and even got my name called for a cash grab (got $52) and also won a set of steer tires from TA booth.

Left ft this morning and spending the rest of the week with family here in Ohio. Booked some short local moves for next week.

    Just enjoying life

Been wrenching a couple days. Lucky I have buddies with free time to help. 4 guys prolly doing the work of one or two, and drinking beer for 10. Life is good and cab shocks on an International are a challenge.

Right now, we are squatting a spot at the hook. Sat. will take the wife to do the laundry and then to the Thai. place for supper.
Yes I know about the wind issues here and these units are light. Like 10k.. The head Iron worker was saying they are thinking about unlding this stuff at night as the winds slow down in the evening and they are behind schedule.
They have a 20 mph limit for undling. I understand that as this is not my first crane rodeo. lol
But a big forklift can unld. these units and they can crane them later..
They ld. them with a big fork lift. Oh forgot to fill everybody in on this little scam. 2 units sheet metal screwed together...
