Those deer whistles aren't nothing but a way to separate you from you're money...don't work. Condo....Not trying to start an argument , but the "rut" happens in the fall....sometime between late October to maybe late Jan (in some places) right now most bucks have lost their headgear and are more concerned with eating than sex...most does drop fawns after a gestation period of a little less than 7 months starting in late May and running thru June and maybe early July for does not breed in their 1st cycle...no rutting going on now. Any deer that you see are just going to and from preferred feeding areas/waterholes , or bedding areas.
heres a great place to get more info....

It was more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. Often they'd compare them to dog/wildlife whistlers with catch phrases like ultra high sonic frequency. But clinical data suggests that deer have pretty much the same audible hearing [frequency] range as we do. Plus, as this is a big one, most of these products only "work" when they're clean. But we all know how much road grim can build up in just one day's worth of driving. Throw in some random pebbles, snow, ice/frost formation, skunk fur, lot lizard spray, and yeah. ....but if it makes you feel better then go ahead (they're cheap). That's all that matters anyway. You're less likely to get the urge to suddenly swerve if you think that buck will move because he heard your whistlers.

I drive lots of nights and early mornings, sometimes the whistles appear to catch their attention, other times not.
I'm supposed to pick my truck up today from the shop, got one that wasn't paying attention and thought at the last minute he/she/it could occupy the same space at the same time on a snow covered(surprise) road, actually, the snow was distracting the little deer, it was putting its' head down at the edge of the road right at the first hoof that crunched the snow on the pavement, and then leaped onto the highway, taking the bumper and the radiator. A small guard would have been enough for this one.
2 seconds isn't enough time to even slow much, but they can leap a long way in that amount of time.
Further info on deer, when the does start dropping fawns is when the bucks start growing a new set of antlers, usually in May around here, and the bucks are going crazy because the does smell like they are coming into estrus. I think more big deer get hit in the spring than the fall around here. -
Not sure if those work, but someone needs to create a "bug repellant" device for trucks. Big, bad bug season just around the corner and already starting in the southern tier. have plenty of window wash tools handy.

Makes sense. Deer only run when startled. They prefer NOT to run since it draws too much attention to themselves. So most times they are standing still trying to figure out if there is a threat around or not. The changing engine tone would startle them, they'd perceive it as a threat and in turn bolt.
A very deer friend of mine told me this. Sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun. -
I put them on backwards. It drew them in. I totaled the truck...
