Do Deer destraction devices work?

20 years ago the whistles was the thing.

 

I am experienced when it comes to hitting deer.....its best to get three ata time..that way you get your quota for the year....I hope...im getting a grill gaurd on my truck soon...after that ill probebly never see a deer and wonder why I bought it..lol

 

Those deer whistles aren't nothing but a way to separate you from you're money...don't work. Condo....Not trying to start an argument , but the "rut" happens in the fall....sometime between late October to maybe late Jan (in some places) right now most bucks have lost their headgear and are more concerned with eating than sex...most does drop fawns after a gestation period of a little less than 7 months starting in late May and running thru June and maybe early July for does not breed in their 1st cycle...no rutting going on now. Any deer that you see are just going to and from preferred feeding areas/waterholes , or bedding areas.

I bought a deer whislte at Walmart.Its nothing but a cheap piece of plastic and doesn't work.

 

It was more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. Often they'd compare them to dog/wildlife whistlers with catch phrases like ultra high sonic frequency. But clinical data suggests that deer have pretty much the same audible hearing [frequency] range as we do. Plus, as this is a big one, most of these products only "work" when they're clean. But we all know how much road grim can build up in just one day's worth of driving. Throw in some random pebbles, snow, ice/frost formation, skunk fur, lot lizard spray, and yeah. ....but if it makes you feel better then go ahead (they're cheap). That's all that matters anyway. You're less likely to get the urge to suddenly swerve if you think that buck will move because he heard your whistlers.

 

Not sure if those work, but someone needs to create a "bug repellant" device for trucks. Big, bad bug season just around the corner and already starting in the southern tier. have plenty of window wash tools handy.

 

Makes sense. Deer only run when startled. They prefer NOT to run since it draws too much attention to themselves. So most times they are standing still trying to figure out if there is a threat around or not. The changing engine tone would startle them, they'd perceive it as a threat and in turn bolt.

A very deer friend of mine told me this. Sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun.
