Since you are required to log time off work, I was wondering if you have to put on duty on your logs during orientation even if you do not drive a truck that day?

    Thanks

On duty not driving.... but the school or company should explain it in orientation.

Anything you do in the course of employment has to be logged. Classroom, orientation, drug tests, even if you moonlight on a second job. Of course a driver knows his limits or will learn them. But be especially careful of anything with a time stamp or document that can be easily found in an audit. Like a drug test there is a DOT document that goes in the file cabinet for 3 years. An auditor can compare it with your logs and go hmmmmmm! :)

Oh thanks! The school I went to spent about an hour and a half on log books and the two companies I have worked for in the oil fields of Texas could care less about a logbook much less a drivers hours. Its pretty much up to the driver 2 let the company you know when your out of hours

No you log it off duty.or ask the person running orientation how that company wants it.

You never let anyone coerce you into falsifying. If you do it you do it on your own accord. A company can't tell you how to log your hours unless you are doing it incorrectly. You're the one that signs it. You are the one that has to pay the fine. If the company requires something extra is fine but they ain't taking away from the basics.

Orientation is for the most part prior to you actually becoming a employee. There fore since your not employed as yet, it would be off duty. The question is when is it you become a employee, hence ask your employer when it is you should log on duty and or when did you become employed.

According to this, I would have to record in my log book if I took a shift bartending or milking cows?

That's probably one of those, "Yeah this sounds good" laws but is never enforced.

So I want 2 make sure that I'm reading this correctly, since I was on the time clock being paid for orientation I would still have to put that in my log book as on duty right?

This is not the kind of company you I ask how to do your logs you are just expected to do your logs and tell them what ur hours are.

They probably wouldn't know if you asked and the reason I'm asking you veterans on here is because I don't want to be misinformed or unintentionally coerced into falsifying my logbook.

Thanks for all the valuable information I owe you guys big time!
