Chip loads are just really light. Usually just going to/from a Frito Lay factory. My husband has one from OH to KS, pay is pretty good and it only weighs around 8,800 lbs. Couple that with flat ground to drive and hopefully good weather, and you just about have an ideal load! It also helps that there is no excess time on it!

My dad used to haul wood chips for Snoozie Shavings out of Crescent City, CA....I still love the smell of wood chips! Those are definitely not as light as potato chips though! ;)

    Wheelwell Thanks this.

Small world, I worked for them once upon a time... worked for Costa out of Brookings then for Snoozie. I used to drive over and load trailers at Glendale then bring a load home. They were good folks mostly, but I heard that its all shut down now.

Small world indeed!!! Yes, to my knowledge they've been shut down for years. My dad worked for them in the early to mid 80's. I was a young lass back then, so I don't really remember the people running it, but my dad made decent money there.

My mom and her husband worked for Costa in the mid 90's. They might know each other, they knew a lot of Snoozie drivers I guess.

Ok, as stated previously, needed to get some things done on truck. This is what I got so far. Might be informative for other drivers ..

    • My rear drive tires were worn lower than the front drives so had those rotated. Same side just switched back to front, front to back. Mechanic said the belts in the tires tend to form to running one direction and crisscrossing when you rotate them will run them in the opposite direction trying to bend the cable inside to go the other direction and you risk getting blow outs. I wasn't sure if I should crisscross the rotation or just front to back so asked them and that's what they advised.. Made sense Cost was $119.00

    • One shock was blown out on the front drive axle so bought & replaced the pair (2 shocks) on front drive axle. Again they did not recommend just replacing one because you will more than likely get uneven shock resistance which can cause problems .. Cost $219 furnished and installed

    • Had truck lubed... going to be getting a PM soon but She needed a good grease-n so got that done.. cost $23.99

    • The above work was completed the night before on 10 hr break (done at a TA). After delivering the load the next day headed to Thermo King to get my tri-pac E fixed (electric tri-pac) It would only run with Air on about 20 min to 2 hours. and then quit! Should last at least 6 hours. After waiting about an hour they got to work on it. About 30 min later the mechanic found the problem! "Smart charger module went bad" he said. Okay... it wasn't to smart then was it! lol thinking to myself.. Unfortunately they didn't have the part and had to order it from the factory. They said they could rush deliver it here by Monday! I said "I'm going to be in Denver on Monday. They said "ok we will just order it regular mail, call us when you get back here and we can install it then. Give it 5 days for the part to arrive. That will work out just fine for me planned on being back in the area next week any way. Cost $0.. Covered under Warranty.

    • Next I headed over to the Fontana OC to park the truck for the night to go home for about 24 hrs. While I was there decided to ask the shop to see if they could fix my tractors Air Condition. Basically when sitting (idle) I had no Air Condition at all (both the tractor nor the tri pac was not working properly). The tractor would only pump out cool air when running down the road ??? They said "sure", "we can get it done in the morning"..They also reminded me that the Quarterly inspection was coming due and asked if wanted that done. Sure!! The next day came back they said the system had a short in it and compressor was blown so they fixed the short and replaced the compressor. While doing inspection they also found 2 loose bolts on the left side mount holding my drive line in place. He said "you should of been noticing a vibration the thing was about to fall off".. I did have a vibration but it came on gradually and just thought the truck was getting older and such.. They replaced those and what a difference it made inside the truck. Whew! sure glad they reminded me about inspection and that they checked that! Dropping the drive line would not of been a pretty sight! Also it is great now to have air while idle again. Have not had to use the air much lately obviously, but glad to have a least one of the air cooling sources working ..Ahhhhhh!!! Life is good again! ........Total cost $73.00 for labor on 2 bolts.., compressor under warranty! $0 cost ..

That's it for now... Still have few more items on my list for the truck work.. Plan on getting that done in the next few weeks!

    Be safe!

So the Schneider shop can do warranty work on your AC? Boy, 73$ to replace 2 bolts or tighten them... spendy. Glad to hear you are getting things in order, So far the costs of expense of fixing doesn't seem too bad. I was told by an older mechanic that if you run down the road for a while then pull over and touch the side of the shock, a working shock will be warm, a non working will be cold to the touch. Thanks for keeping us up to date!

Hi Atruckr... As a business owner, you really need to get your own grease gun and coveralls and do the grease job
yourself.. Get into the habit of doing it once a week and also look for stuff that may need attention..

It could save you big bucks in the future and keep your business in the green... As a business owner, instead of
watching videos, take some time outa of your day, and really inspect the truck...

You door slammers should have lots more free time then us chain and tarp guys.. Not trying to pick on you,
but as an ole retired driver, just trying to help a little.. Remember, you are Not just a wheel holder now...

Dogals right foot, moosc and Drifter42 Thank this.
