I think you are on your way, krazyhorsechick! So long as you are having good moments along the way and learning everyday then you have turned the corner. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will get easier.
What are the seat belt regulations when you are backing into a dock? Anyone? It seems to me that if you are trying to watch both sides of the truck and trailer and getting in and out to look, then refastening your seat belt every time wouldn't be necessary .....but what is the law?

HTQ I am not training right now. My wife's job is getting busier so I don't have to.
As for tips on E-Logs make sure you log off duty as fast as you can and do not waste time for any on duty status. Also keep the driver side door closed. I do over 3,000 miles a week in under 57 hours and still think it could be better than that.
Be safe everyoneHometimeQueen Thanks this. -
when the first drive cams were put in the trucks Thomas called me and said you didn't have your seatbelt on
in the yard hooking up to an empty to take to Tyson 100 yards away
he said he didn't care if I had to get in and out 5 times in 5 minutes
wearing the seatbelt was required
like everything else this is a result of too many seatbelt violation tickets
drivers only have themselves to blame for over reactions of the government
and the company they drive forHometimeQueen Thanks this. -
Oh no! I am sorry, oliver2. It is so hard to keep things in balance, isn't it? You and George aren't alone, it is something that we all go through. When you are married to a driver it is a family lifestyle ....and has so many effects on everyone's daily life. So many decisions are on your shoulders alone when you are the one at home .....and so many stresses are on his when he is the one on the road. I struggle with it everyday ....and pray about it ....and try to quiet my mind so that I am open to the answers. I usually do fairly well at biting my tongue when he is home, and I am sure he does also ....but there are times!
Thankfully, they are few.....because being separated for so much of the time does make you realize how precious time is. It is hard when you pick up the phone and hear the stress in their voice.....and know that they are just calling you so that they have someone to complain to!
Even an emotional time at home is a good thing .....you have to care tremendously to feel that emotion. It means that tough as it is there is a strong connection between the two of you. Funny as it sounds, I think the King being a driver has given us both a new respect for one another....it has brought out strengths we didn't realize in one another, it has forced us to talk more and share more verbally than what we did when he was home every night and to value the sacrifices that one makes for the other. Having a husband that is OTR and teenage girls at home has taught me to pick my battles a little more carefully.....to decide if it is something that has to be settled now or something that won't make a bit of difference a month from now.
All of that being said, oliver2, I am right there with ya ....it ain't easy being in the trucking business and I get tired of it too! You can also PM me and I will give you my phone number .....we can commiserate!

maybe oliver can tell you how to handle the big tractor

That is what I was wondering. I know for me in a regular vehicle and being a little on the short side, there are times that I either have to get one of the girls to play "lookout" for me or if I am alone I have to unbuckle in order to be able to twist around and look better....but you have to remember I have to stand on a step stool to get the clothes out of my dryer!

I am happy for you that you don't need to train anymore, jaso, but sad that you aren't training new drivers. I know you put a lot of thought into doing a good job as a coach.jaso36 Thanks this.
