For what it is worth, i think a lot of the policies are intrusive, but You are making it personal and crying the blues. .. what's the point? Will it change anything? Just keep doing the rebel thing as a personal crusade against the injustices of current policies and that is all that matters. My time in service matters little with all of this. If you do not like the policies set forth, then leave already... it is what it is and the job is still decent money for relatively easy work. Put your dissatisfaction to action and quit to prove your point about how unfair everything is for you and all the drivers that remember the good old days... be the example for all others to emulate.

Crying the blues, personal crusade is that what you get? Allow me to set the record straight. I am closely following all these policies not so much because they affect me but because they have hurt alot of really good drivers. Good drivers with families that relied on the stability they had with Walmart. Drivers that had no other discipline and some had many years of loyal service. Have I not made that clear,if you got that this was about me you realy are ignorant. The cell phone policy is the least of my worries,if a guy is not smart enough to figure the way around that policy I dont know what to say.

Change is possible, have you not seen my thread on the CA compensation lawsuit currently working its way thru the courts? Its not my crying that launched the action, there are hundreds of drivers that feel those issues are worth the trouble. If sucessful that case could mean huge changes, ones that Walmart would have never considered. Figure up you weekly free labor and tell me its not worth the fight.

So sit back and continue being in it all for yourself,Walmart is counting on you and others that feel "whats the point".

You know how it goes Cal, change may be possible, but highly unlikely. I commend you for trying however. I think we can all agree that texting and driving is bad and shouldn't be done. It can wait til your stopped... the phone use is a point to be argued however. Anyway, it still us a good place to work and as a driver there, we are largely left alone for the most part. Just be careful out there!

Your position on the issue is respected,I understand things are different for each driver and understand people on the same side can view an issue and come up with their own solution to the problem at hand. Lets see how things shake out here in CA and maybe change for the better will be possible.

That's strange because the policy clearly states records only pulled in a preventable incident. I was involved in a non preventable records never checked.
Holding the phone to your head a no no for sure.

Bentonville is really pushing its luck with this cell phone issue and if they dont back off I see the legal team putting in alot of over time trying to fend off a pile of legal actions. One thing I wonder is why would you hand over the records for the phone you use for non work related calls? This one just really makes me wonder how bright some of our guys really are.

Easy fix for all this. Zero tolerance while driving. No phone use at all unless parked. Simple. That's what I do.

Zero tolerance, thats just great. Why should others who have 20+ years of safe driving (many of those were with phones in the truck) be forced to comply to the standards you think are an "easy fix". What will it be next,no stereo or sirius unless your parked. I would love to see you run that past some of the older guys in your drivers room. Here is my idea, you dont talk on the phone and the rest of us will do what we have always done.

National Safety Council publication that's worth a read: Why Driving While Using Hands-Free Cell Phones is Risky Behavior

As a side note, it really irks me to see the driver of a vehicle chatting away on the phone when there are 1-3 passengers in the same vehicle. Why not allow one of the other vehicle occupants to handle that 'urgent business' for the driver while they pay close attention to the immediate task of driving?

We are all aware of the dangers of distracted driving,a review is not needed. With that said, what happened to personal responsabillity? Tragic accidents happen for many reasons with distracted driving being a major cause. There is a time and a place for everything, knowing that time and place is what seperates professionals from the rest.
