This is a minnesota company I'd be working for, would be driving under the employer as an independent contractor.
Driving brand new Sprinter vans, 2013, said they have like 6-10,000 miles on them. Gas, toll fee, maintenance covered.
Said they would need 1,000 for insurance deductible and that is set aside in case anything happens to the car. Taken out incrimentally over 5 paychecks. If I decided to leave, I would get that money back.
Said I would primarily be on the east coast and midwest. Said I would get 30 percent of each load, and said I could comfortably make 800-1000 per week. Said if I delivered into Canada I could make 2000-2500 per week.
Said the best way to go about it would be to go out for 2-3 weeks, then come back for 1.
Said most drivers use cots for sleep at night.
What do you guys think?
Need some advice, possible job offer

Sounds like you would be an "employee", reclassified ic/oo via lease-leaseback deal. some states (NY) and the ooida take exception to such "details".
Sometimes, some companies have a list of reasons for not returning your "insurance deposit", when you leave the company.
I'm wondering, why is the pay so different for delivery into Canada ??
Hunt up one of there Drivers and ask some questions ? -
Lot more action up there, he said I would be up in the Quebec area.
Insurance deposit I agree, I would want something in writing.
What do you think about sleeping in a sprinter, or would you go the hotel route even if you had to pay for it? -
Sleeping in a van... is what it is. getting a hotel, often, would eat up alot of that $ 800-1000. ?
Hunt up some of there Drivers. that would be your best rt to the truth. -
Don't even know where to start looking for them. Company is Riverside logistics, this is the link. http://riversideusair.com/
Hotel you can get for 50 a night, which would definitely eat into that 800-1000 a week. I'd be alright sleeping in a van I think, as long as I have the proper materials. -
800 in a van today?
Really?
Where do I sign up at??
Seriously you as a contractor would have a contract with them, but driving their vehicle, you would not be a contractor but an employee because they would tell you how to drive, what route to take and can't refuse any loads. -
Yep proper Materials, and I hope that van is insulated for your sake.
Sleeping on a cot? Look up the FMCSA Sleeper Berth Regulations. The first time you logged sleeper berth instead of off duty they'd ask to see your sleeper berth. Just one part of it, a legal sleeper berth must have seat belts. I know it sounds corny but it's the law. Not saying you couldn't get away sleeping in the back of the van on a cot, just saying if you log sleeper berth and it doesn't meet DOT specifications you'll likely get a fine, slammed on your safersys rating, and shut down for an additional 10 hours.
Hope the job is all they say it is. Best of luck. -
That does sound a little off especially the huge pay difference in US vs Canada driving. As far as sleeping goes, I only get a hotel maybe 2-3 times a week at the most. Sometimes I go all week without one. If it's cold I use up to two sleeping bags one inside another. In sub-zero, or too hot conditions I'll find somewhere I can park where the wind carries the exhaust away and idle the truck running the heat/ac. If I was you I'd inquire about contracting as a OO using your own van if you have the ability to get your own. I love the freedom and the money myself. I was so sick of working for others and dealing with their drama that's why I got into this on my own.
