Some people are businessmen and others workers. Judging from your post you are definitely not a businessman.
We are covered by workmans comp and have a 30,000 insurance policy from company.. Plus social security? What do take a crap load now only to give me peanuts later? Id rather take my own money and invest it elsewhere.
as for taxes.. Youre a fool because I have a CPA that has been doing truckers last 18 years and mine the last 3 and she showed how foolish people are when they pay quarterly over yearly.
big corporations pay your taxes to the IRS yearly so why would you pay quarterly!? Second, after your 53 dollar a day write off for food plus all the other 827372 writeoffs that a knowledgeable trucker CPA would show you.. You will pay minimal if any taxes.
So my friend, if being babysat by a corporation is your thing then have at it. -
The illegals be makin skrilla yo.

A few facts on Prosport and their "flying colors"DOT.....
Unsafe Driving : 96.9% (WAY over investigation threshold) Total Inspections with Unsafe Driving Violations: 64 Total Unsafe Driving Violations: 68 That's good for an outfit with less than 100 trucks isn't it????
HOS Compliance : 72.7 (Over investigation levels) Total Inspections with HOS Compliance Violations: 70 Total HOS Compliance Violations: 98 OOS Violation: 34 (14 of which were FALSE records of duty status)
Driver Fitness : 42.6% (a little high)
Drugs and Alcohol: 6.9 (the only good one)
Maintenance : 68.7% (close to the threshold of 80%) with 57 OOS orders
Make a judgement for yourself there really...take a look at a company's CSA score and look at it CLOSELY not just the bare numbers....look at what the violations are and make an informed decision from there. I know what conclusions I would make from the numbers at least...and if you speak to a company ASK them about certain incidents you saw and what their take is on them.

Seen two of their trucks pulled behind 2 different Illinois scales today.
-
Probably more numbers to add to what they already have!!!
-
Not from what I have seen. Every person who I have spoke to that was payed on 1099 owed thousands of dollars at tax time. Nothing like living paycheck to paycheck and in April having to write a $6,000 check to the IRS that you don't have. I don't care how many write offs you claim if you make $50k in a year and don't pay a dime into tax you'll be in hot water. Don't forget state income tax too if you live in a state like Illinois. I would never drive under a 1099 as a company driver.
-
Who the heck lives pay check to paycheck? Not if you drive with prosport you don't.
Second, we are over 300 trucks now not less than 100 as someone claims.
Third, as I said.. we are installing e logs across the entire company and guess what? Our drivers still are making money and you know why? Because we are paid well and
treated fairly while given miles consistently. This is a place if you really want to work. If you are older and ready for retirement then definitely not a place for you to work. -
Most drivers aren't smart enough to run on 1099 it is similar to owning your truck. As Knight Rider stated earlier you have to have some business sense and you do pay into social security just like an o/o. The self employment tax you pay on a 1099 covers that but you can expect to pay about 15% more on top of you federal & state. You have to be smart enough to save for these things, that being said you would have to make sure you are paid well to cover that extra 15%. The only time I had to live pay check to pay check was when I drove for large companies that had cut back trucks which was only a couple years. Before someone says it no I don't drive for this co or any for that matter. I bought a non trucking business when I sold my last truck.
