    Hey Scarecrow,

    I called Schneider and they said they'd take me even with the suspension because I was in the military. I don't know if that's recruiter talk or what. Any other Schneider drivers out there have any info to help me?

    I would be sure you get that in writing before you head to their school. It'd suck to go all the way up to Green Bay, WI just to have to come back home because you're not able to be hired.

    Everyone is eager to get out in thier own truck, more money there. You can't get too much training, if you can, take as much as they will allow you. It seems tedious at times but it proves useful down the road. Eat all you can.

    Okay, but how do I get that in writing? Will they put it in writing?

    I would insist they do so. If they don't put it in writing then you know it isn't a solid offer.

    As far as how to do it, just ask them if they can guarantee that so long as you pass all testing that they will hire you knowing full well about the suspension.

    WannnaB, They are now telling most new guys, at least they told me, you will be out about three to four weeks at a time. I have seen the terminals at Carlise, Pa and Charlette, NC and one in Gary, Ia. They were all well maintained and resonably clean. I soloed back in 2000 on a dedicated account and ran north & south on I 95 and east and west on I 80. Pretty typical OTR, back and forth or circular motion.

    I don't know what to do. I'd like to go with Schneider, but I'm scared that if I quit my job and then go and then they send me home, I'm going to be mad because the recruiter told me that it wouldn't be a problem. I'm going to call them several more times and see if that is the standard answer from the recruiters I talk to there. If I get the same answer each time then it should be solid. Right?

    NEVER trust a recruiter. Didn't your time in the Corps teach you that? Get it writing, man.

    I'm afraid even that isn't an iron-clad guarantee.

    I'd tend to trust Schneider more than some of the others though. But I also understand your situation, Wannabe.

    If they told you they'd overlook your dilemma because you were in the military just might be true. Personally, I think that's the least a company could do in thanks for your service to this country.

    You might just have to take that leap of faith here, and hope you land on your feet. IMO, Schneider would be a good company for you to start with, and possibly remain with for years.

    I agree with Scarecrow though, get it, and ANYthing else important to you, in writing FIRST. :yes2557:

    Thanks Aftershock and Scarecrow. I that's what I'm going to do. I will request it in writing. Not the offer of a job but that my situation is approved by them. if they can guarantee that, then I'll be good to go. Cause I don't want to quit my job and get out there to train and be sent home. I'll be PO'd big time. And knocking on some VP's door to get people fired!!! In the military ignorance was not an excuse because you get a chance to disclose everything and before you sign the papers everything must be made clear to you. (Worked as a recruiter for some years) In this industry it's difficult because you do not know the company's hiring policies and very little information is put out. And to me if a company or representative of the company, knowingly misleads someone and thereby causes them financial hardship that's grounds for a lawsuit to me. Especially if a person quits their job, to go to training and is told that their issues are not issues. That's plain wrong, at the least I'd be contacting the President of the Company, and anyone else who'll listen to get that recruiter fired and to make the company's lies publicly known. I'd contact their customers (if known) and let them know what they did to a US. Marine Corps vet, and see how they like that. Plus I'd get on the evening news, and try to make it national as well. It'd be easy with the job markets the way they are and the military personnel coming home from the war. I'd blast schneider or any other company from every aspect. By the time I'd be done with them I'd have either a job offer, or a public apology.

    (I'm dreaming aren't I) But those are the lengths I'd go through if I were promised something and then quit my job, went out there and was lied to and sent home. I'd get a hotel, and set up a campaign to destroy that company. I'd find out who their customers are and blast them to their customers about how they treat military vets. I wouldn't lie, I'd just tell the truth.

    I know...most of you guys will probably say it won't work. But I did the exact same thing with a fortune 500 company here in Louisville and they made big changes because of me.
