TREAT YOUR BODY like a Mercedes or Porsche. You're not going to put the cheapest gas in a Benz or Porsche - you're going to use the highest grade to make your car run efficiently so the engine runs at its best. So treat your body like the machine that it is so that it runs its absolute best.

Since you're on the road all day the most cost effective and best thing to do to eat healthy to lose weight is:
    1) Buy a cooler and a few ice packs to keep your food either from spoiling (or for the winter - depending where u live - from freezing (minus the ice packs). Make sure it's big enough for brkfst, snacks, lunch and dinner.
    2) Make your meals - that'll last throughout the week (because you obviously don't have time to be cooking everyday).
You're probably saying no way jose but before you totally say no, keep reading....
There's quick & easy meals you can make for meals for several days.

Here's an example of a week in healthy eating to nourish your body and lose weight:
    To do:
-Grill or bake lean chicken or fish (*preferably organic/hormone-free*) - enough of it for lunches & dinners until you'll have time/a day off again to cook.
-Cook lentils or black beans - enough for lunches/dinners.
-Boil eggs for hard-boiled eggs (eat with or w/out the yolk. I always toss it).
-Buy ONLY multigrain bread (a good brand (that doesn't taste like tree bark is "Healthy Living" - the "100% Natural Farmer's 12 Grain bread made from 100% whole grain).
-Get RAW, unsalted walnuts, cashews and or almonds, peanut butter on multigrain bread (for snacks)
-Look for unsweetened peanut butter - it's packed with protein, fiber and nutrients sustaining your hunger.
    (see http://www.associatedcontent.com/article...

-Buy organic spinach & if you want any other veggies of your choice preferably organic.
-Get organic low fat yogurt. Oikos Greek yogurt tastes amazing - thick & creamy. (I get the 0% fat plain yogurt).

Why the whole grain? Because whole grain bread will make you feel full much longer - with fewer calories, you'll end up eating less (than white bread), has valuable antioxidants which help reduce cancer...just to name some. Important - some whole wheat breads you get at the store are really just white bread so you need to look at the ingredients. "Whole Wheat Flower" must be the 1st ingredients - that's the way to determine if it really is whole wheat or if it's just darker white bread.

And if you're rolling your eyes at the "organic/hormone-free meat", fruits & veggies and dairy products - just know that all those chemicals in the regular meat, fruit, veggies and dairy have chemicals that when consumed - the body takes longer to digest these chemicals, slowing your metabolism, making it harder for your body to effectively burn calories, not to mention doing a list of other harmful things. (see http://www.experiencelifemag.com/issues/...

No I don't eat only all organic foods but I do the best I can. I'm at about 70% now at eating organics.

Breakfast: Organic yogurt and some fruit and/or raw nuts. A slice of plain multigrain toast.
Snack: hard-boiled egg w/ piece of fruit or veggie
Lunch: grilled chicken (or fish) w/one slice of multigrain bread with spinach on sandwich or on the side & some fruit
Dinner: Grilled fish or chkn w/multigrain bread
Snack: Small handful of Raw cashews, walnuts or almonds and fruit or veggies if desired.

    3) Important: Every time you eat a meal or snack, eat some protein FIRST - BEFORE eating whatever else you're going to eat. For example, if you want to eat a snack, eat a hard boiled egg or two (each one has 6 grams of protein). Eating protein first at the beginning of the meal or snack will help you to feel full faster - therefore you'll eat less overall and you WILL lose weight. (see Zone Diet.com - this is the diet Jennifer Aniston follows). NOTE: The zone-diet website seems to also promote supplement foods like snack bars, etc. but eating whole food meals is probably best - although the bars would be a decent alternative to take on the road.

    4) Some important things to do: Don't eat white breads & pastas - eat whole grain breads instead, Don't eat trans-fatty acids (a lot of this found in the fast food chains - so good thing you're cutting that out). Eat healthy oils in fish instead.

    5) If you buy red meat - buy the leanest you can get - like ground sirloin 95% fat free.

    6) Eat more grains w/your meals (WITH a source of protein and remember - eat Protein FIRST) - lentils, black beans, chickpeas, barley, quinoa, etc.

    7) Cut out starchy foods - corn, flour, cereals. Raises your insulin messing up your metabolism.

    8) Try to avoid sugar at all possible costs.

    9) Avoid sodas and instead of juice - eat the actual fruit. It's much better for you for losing weight because the actual whole fruit is where all the fiber is whereas juice (although it has all the vitamins in it) it's the concentrated form of sugar, fructose. Concentrated sugar, even fructose isn't the best thing for trying to lose weight.

    10) Avoid anything that says it has high fructose corn syrup - just raises your insulin - produces a vicious hunger craving cycle later and will kill your plan to lose weight.

    11) Try to shop at health food markets that carry healthier stuff - like Whole Foods. Yeah it's not cheap but neither is eating out everyday. And when you buy healthy foods & cook them it's totally affordable.

    12) Try to get some cardio. Start out by taking brisk walks and then jogging if you're up to it. Also do weight training as well. Start out 1 day a week if you can (since you probably have a busy schedule) and work your way up. There's websites out there that tell you what exercises to do at home if you don't belong to a gym. You can click on the video to see exactly how the exercise is performed. http://www.menshealth.com/cda/topicpage....

One last tip for eating: An easy and super fast way to prepare meals for the upcoming Fall/Winter months, get a slow cooker - put healthy meats & veggies in it for your meals. (Get slow cooker recipes online.)

If you find it too difficult to abruptly stop eating white breads, etc. just do it gradually. Gradually cut the bad things out day by day. You don't have to do these changes overnight. But the sooner you make the changes, the sooner you get back on track and on the road to a healthy lifestyle and reach your goal.

Remember to continue to educate yourself daily on healthy living (see some of my website suggestions below) but there's just so many out there on the net and in books.

Hopefully this info's helpful. Sorry it's a long list but there's a LOT of info to give with respect to eating healthy and losing weight. Good luck! : )

Oh come on who are you kidding...

    Breakfast:

Roll out of sleeper, several wrappers of king size candybars still on shelf. Dump candybar crumbs into mouth. Pre breakfast snack done. Grab giant mug. Oh wait no that ones the piss bottle. Or is it mountain dew. Don't know for sure, both smell the same. Oh well. Throw that **** out the window and splatter it alongside the truck parked next to you. Time to go fill this ***** up. Piss on tires first. Waddle over to truckstop entrance from the no parking zone next to the scale. No parking. You mean personal dedicated supertrucker parking ONLY.

Waddle into the Pilot. Put on blue parrot. Call up Bubba. Bubba's workin part time construction using a jackhammer so make sure to talk real loud and announce every movement you make. Walk over to McD's. Ask for 4 McGriddles, 2 orders of hashbrowns, 3 chocolate chip cookies, mega pancake breakfast, throw a fit when she won't put chocolate chips in premade McD's pancakes (make sure to tell Bubba too cause ya'll still on the phone), and fill up the mega-mug with mountain dew.

Wrestle wallet out of pocket and launch 15 credit cards all over the floor. Get mad at people in line when they try to help you pick them up. Tell Bubba about how these foreigners are trying to take your money and THEY TERK ER JERBS. Waddle back to personalized parking area. Start truck and drive up to fuel island. Jake shift international prostar through parking lot at 18 MPH missing at least 4 gears. Don't matter its just the transmission shes still cold. Don't need fuel but that's ok, now in level 2 prioritized parking zone. Enjoy breakfast.

    Lunch:

Roll into rest area. Pull into angled parking spot. Trailer tandems sitting in the spot next to you. Oh well, no need to straighten out. Pop brakes with nose of truck hanging out a good 10 feet in front of everyone else. Driver next to you trying to pull out. He can't because your truck is hanging out too far. You make eye contact with this driver. Sneer at him. Hit call button on blue parrot, time to update Bubba with how things are goin. A family with some little kids on an RV trip are coming up to the rest area too. Make sure to curse loudly telling Bubba about that ***** *** ****** ******* ***** **** at McDonalds that you're still mad at because she didn't put chocolate chips in your premade pancakes. You know why there are 2 rolls of toilet paper in rest area stalls? That's cause unravel one entire roll to put it on the toilet seat before you sit down. Don't need no germs touchin you now. Sit down, do business. Leave without flushing and 80 feet of Charmin ultra soft still on top of toilet seat. Don't wash hands cause you didn't touch anything.

Approach vending machine. Wrestle around in sweatpants for loose change. Place 2 quarters, a 3/4" washer, and dryer lint into vending machine change slot. Press Honeybun button. It jams on the way out. Curse voilently, update Bubba and start shaking and kicking vending machine. It drops out 3 honeybuns. 3 course lunch meal is now ready.

    Dinner:

Roll up to FlyingJ at 7 PM. Pull up to fuel pumps. Pop brakes, walk off. To Denny's. Time for dinner. Cute 20-something year old waitress obviously has the hots for you when she asks you what you'd like to order. Loudly tell her (and Bubba) you want some of her back in your truck. The expression on her face doesn't change. She's obviously so starstruck by the fact that you are interested in her that she's at a loss for words. Order the Grand Slam breakfast. But change everything in the order so that its actually no longer a Grand Slam at all. Ask her to fill up mega jug with more mountain dew. "Sir we don't have mountain dew, can I get you so---" she starts to say. Get angry and huff and puff and say NEVER MIND I'LL GO GET IT MYSELF. Waddle out to soda fountains and fill up mega jug. Don't pay. Walk back to Denny's. She brings your order out. Throw a fit because it doesn't look like exactly what you saw in the picture. She tries to explain that you ordered other items. Doesn't matter. Dumb *** waitresses. Curse about them to Bubba.

Inhale food in about 4 minutes. Spend remaining 47 minutes sitting at table talking loudly to Bubba. Loudly tell waitress that I'M NOT DONE YET when she tries to bring you your check. Finally, its time to go. Yell out for your check and complain about why she didn't bring it to you earlier. Hit on cashier who obviously wants you really bad too. She ignores you. Leave $0 tip. That'll show them.

Waddle back to truck still sitting in fuel island. Take 10 hour break. Rinse and repeat.

Certainly interesting thread and topics. Yes sugar is the death knell of good health. Diabetes is outta control.
I'm getting into the habit of cooking fresh salmon with bacon and sausage with a side of scrambled eggs, for breakfast. Sorry no toast. Although multi grain bread is good. But too much carbs are gonna play havoc with weight gain.
And you've got to have good freshly brewed coffee. All done on my Peterbilt 387. It takes time to figure out the skill of making good food on board but it can be done.
Don't let bacon grease put you off. Actually as a treat I'd love to fry a thick slice of bread in that lovely fat and the flavor will bowl you over. Cholesterol ?? What's that? Nah, don't believe in rampant mythology. Stay away from sugar, and things will work out just fine.
    Good luck
