Ask a Trainer - For New Hires and Potential Employees

when I took mine I came home on Friday before and didn't go back till Monday after so I had 9 days. which was recommended by my dispatcher.

 

Ok so quick question about Millis and their hiring. One of their requirements are all major accidents must be discharged for 5 years. What exactly qualifies as a major accident? Here is what I have, if you could please tell me if this would pass for Millis.

May 15 2013, I was riding my motorcycle on a country road that is known for its curves and hills. I set up for a curve that goes right on a hill at about 45 degrees. Recommended speed for the curve is 45mph this requires setting up towards the center line in my lane, as i counter-steer into my corner, I crest the hill and see an SUV that has strayed completely into my lane. I stood my bike up to move left, as I do the car starts coming back into his lane, by then im already committed, and I made a decision to go to the ditch vs hitting the SUV. I figured if I could ride it out in the ditch I would be good, that was when I slammed into a culvert that flipped we off my bike, the bike went down the ditch and i slid into another culvert went airborne landing about 10-15 feet from my bike. Bike was totaled. The car that wandered into my lane didn't stick around, he kept going. The car behind him stopped and called police. I posted my story, the witness driver posted his, of course because I went off the road I was charged with failure to control. Its a 2 point dent to my license. I have no other moving violations since 2009, all are off my record. The officer's report stated that excessive speed was the result of my accident (however he wasnt able to estimate my speed), his report doesn't even show that the witness car had told them a car had went into my lane. Yes I was riding faster than the posted recommended speed of 45mph, I was doing 50mph, the posted speed limit for the road was 55mph, and its not uncommon for other riders to hit that curve at 65 or even 70mph on their sport bikes.


Is this an offense that would be overlooked by Millis recruiting?

 

Probably best to call Millis and ask them.

 

LOL thats exactly what I did when they called and spoke to me today. The recruiter on the phone stated that this offense is nothing that they are worried about.

 

They are more worried about accidents related to driving a truck. If you have an established pattern of bad driving in a personal vehicle then they probably won't like that but for what you said I've seen guys get hired with a lot worse

 

what the pay?

Per 6 month, 1 year or 2 years experience?

 

I'd love to have info on Millis from you guys, admittedly I didn't read alot of this thread cause I wanted some up to date info on questions such as miles a week, hometime, equipment, and my biggest question for drivers is how do y'all feel about the driver facing camera? I got a hang up with that for some reason, but it's not a deal breaker by any means. Any info would help, thanks y'all!

 

Just saw a Millis truck on I-24 west going through Nashville. Is I-24 one of Millis freight lanes?
