You will but it aint pretty (snoozer runs). You have to pay your dues to get your rewards. Do you know that most of the guys Walmart has jacked here lately could have gotten their jobs back in a union shop? These were not trouble making guys, some were first offense guys with years of perfect service, Im not even trying to get a union-non union thing going, just saying. There was a day when you could only be terminated at Walmart for theft or dishonesty. There was a step process that allowed plenty of room for minor screw ups. Walmart has there share of problem children just like any other fleet.

I agree things are changing and it seems as if the lawyers are making the policies now.It is still a good job i wouldn't leave a good union job with seniority for it but it is better than alot of jobs out there.

Hey you get it Wally. The whole show is being run with winks and nods from legal in Bentonville. Attorneys (even the ones on the CA suit) are heartless animals and its all paperwork to them. Its easy to pick up a pen, make some half thought out decision and flush 20 years of a mans hard work down the crapper. Mr Sam would be pissed if he saw his drivers being treated like this,he was a great man and a man I looked up to long before I came on.

I ran some Walmart dedicated routes over the last few weeks. Are they thinning the herd of company drivers and relying more on contract carriers to save money?

Outside help is used when needed but its really not the time of year we usually see alot of outside carriers pulling store loads. Some of the DC's are 100% third party and some are split with the private fleet. We have been told that the overall use of outside help was going to decrease, but I have been hearing that for years. Some say that the candidate pool is full as always, all the radio ads and mass marketing point to a shortage of qualified candidates.

Wal-mart tries to keep the number of drivers that it can keep busy year round. They supplement with dedicated drivers during our peaks. This has been a very busy winter / early spring between high volume and crappy weather.

For most of us, here is the phone policy:
No more than 1 hour total driving talk time per day
No more than 10 minutes per call while driving
No calls while driving on WM property, vendor property, school zones, construction zones, bad weather

If you have a preventible accident:
You have to give them your phone records for the day of the accident. You may blackout the number called. Even if you were not on the phone at the time of the accident, you will be disciplined if you have violated any of the above.

If you were on the phone when the accident happened, YOUR ARE TOAST!

that has changed u can talk with Bluetooth handsfree on yard and as long as you stay under 15 mph on duty it does not count toward your 10min and like I said its a pilot program for one year and then they will decide to either make all dc this way or not
