Dennisroc,
Like Cranky said, be up front with the recruiter. Im not sure whete they draw the lines, but know they can be willing to overlook some things. But TransAm is good about clearing you BEFORE shipping you to orientation, so if you get the greyhound, you dont have to worry about being sent packing unless you pee dirty or something.
In other news, Ive put 130,000 miles on this truck since I got her last March and its incredibly satisfying to have done it myself. I know what issues this truck currently does and does not have, so no wondering whether the last driver drove it like he stole it.
BTW, safety classes can now be done online as long as they have your email on file!!ajacks121712, dennisroc, passport220 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Glad you are doing well, honeybadger. Enjoy your home time and Happy Anniversary!
That is great news about the safety classes being online. That was one of my suggestions long ago. I know there were times the King wasn't in the yard other than on a weekend or night for months on end. That will make it so much easier for the drivers to comply with.
dennisroc, I don't think you have to worry too much....as everyone said just be honest about it.dennisroc Thanks this. -
Is Indianola, Mississippi the one with the messed up address? Have you been there before, honeybadger?
-
I see you have been shown how long orientation is...as for the medical card, be sure to ask the doctor you are calling if they do them, not all doctors do, but I'm pretty sure it's a great handful that do. The training and orientation time is actually one of the best we found (research wise) and my husband (gamma) likes it a WHOLE lot better so far than the previous company he went with. -
well finished today... should be going out with a trainer tomorrow fingers crossed. lol. Its been a good week and a half Cornell is good in the class room and William knows his stuff when it comes to backing. just wish they werent pushing lease so hard. hope everyone is having a good day and is safe.
HometimeQueen and dennisroc Thank this. -
Thanks everyone for great info, seems like a good place to work starting out.
since I have never drove a semi before, do you all think that a CDL school and 11 days of training is enough to be given a truck and be on your own.
seems like so many other companies train forever, I was just surprised only 11 days but if good training maybe ok.
have others been trained for 11days and then cut loose, how was it. -
In Effingham tonight on my way to Hazleton, Pa. crazy hours. in middle of my 10 right now but cant sleep more than 4 hrs at a time. I am getting old not as old as cranky. LOL
Good to see honeybadger back. She does some of the funniest stuff I have ever heard of anyone doing.
Now I dont want to take that 435 to get out of Olathe till they catch that psycho. Maybe I will let the wife know so when I go home she will be more sympathetic to me. LOL
dennisroc orientation is 3 days then back to hotel over the weekend then 4 days of backing. They try to sell you the lease during those 4 days I highly recomend against signing that lease when you first start. Learn this industry first but they make it sound very easy. I am a trainer here and sometimes before I pick up a student they tell me they need him to sign up but I just tell the truth and let them see my settlements.
Be safe out therejdmredneck33, HometimeQueen and dennisroc Thank this. -
Thanks Jaso, I have been doing research on here and never heard anything good about a lease, so no chance of that for me. Just want to be a company driver.
With you being a trainer, how do you feel about the 11 days of training, is it enough and what all do you do in those 11 days.
i would think after CDL school and training there i should be ok, what are your thoughts. -
NO. But TransAm does it anyway. My CDL school was 3 weeks. I got 3 days OTR with a coach before being called back to Olathe, and one of those days was spent sitting waiting to be dispatched. I got my truck with the rest of the class. Im still alive obviously and have taught myself a lot, but there is a lot I still dont know. Do I think its a good idea? Heck no. But the sooner they get you out of training, the sooner you can start making their truck payments. I havent killed anyone, my truck isnt torn up,nor have I torn up any trailers or property. But Im all for longer training.
Jaso, glad my adventures and misadventures provide entertainment.
HTQ, messed up address?! Ive never been there!! Anyone else? TransAm sent 301 Martin Luther King as the street address.
