We have just recently left them after 4 years. They have been bought out by ABF. (Actually Arkansas Best Corp. who owns ABF) Since this has happened the president and CEO Andy Clark, who was in that position for 7 yrs, quit after 6 months. They have been losing frieght lanes like crazy. They had 4 solid companies in NC right off I95 that we used to be able to bank on 2 or 3 times a week out of each one. Last time we called and asked about them we were told they no longer do those. Another guarenteed run of 400 miles from Elkton, Va. to Jamaca, NY for $1200 to $1500 depending on how bad they wanted u, gone. These were bread and butter staples of our business that dried up. We went from 4 or 5 load offers a day to figuring we had to take the 1 they offered that day because we might not get another and maybe not for a couple of days.
And it wasnt just us. We talked to several other drivers who were saying the same things. We talked to the "iconic" Mo whom Panther is very proud of and uses him in their orientation for an example. He had 50 trucks on at one time. Then down to 13 and now down to 1, his own. This alone speaks volumes.
In summary, Panther treated us well over the years and I have no desire to bad mouth them. However they r not them same company with the new owners and it was just time to go.

We drove a Tractor that we are O/O of. I have spoken to some other drivers since that have told me it has gotten better however I couldn't say that for sure. We are now at Landstar and like it fine here. We may not make as much sometimes but other times we make more so things average out. The really big difference is the control over your loads and time. And no more fighting with dispatchers. This alone is worth the switch.
