Spotters Sunglasses are all I wear!! I have Oakleys, Ray Bans, and El Cheapos BUT Spotters I can wear at night, bright light, or low light and never hurt my eyes

For those who think the $5 glasses do "just fine", well you really need to see an optometrist and listen to how much damage we do to our eyes by being cheap

Apparently you missed my post. My eye doctor at the VA hospital cited a study which concluded that El cheapos are just fine optically, but provide no shatter proof protection.

 

Over time the lens quality breaks down on those El CHeapos which causes distortion of the image or road in this case, straining your eyes. Not only that but tests have been done and shown that many el cheapo glasses only block 50-60% of the uv400 light...just enough to earn the uv400 rating

 

I wear Nike "golfer" sunglasses, they have good lenses not too dark and are also the lightest sunglasses you can find. I wear them all day and get no eye strain. I had a pair of $200 Oakley's which I left in a truckstop restroom, couldn't bear to spend that much on another pair.

 

I have a pair of IRD glasses. (Ice Road Truckers)
I paid $20 at a Pilot.
They are amber, and polarized.

I like amber because they filter out blue light (that wavelength seems to make things fuzzy to my eyes), and polarized because they filter out glare.
They give a better contrast range, which is helpful in many driving conditions - such as snow or fog or rain.


I have spent well over $100 dollars for a simple pair of sunglasses, several times over the years. But these do me just fine.
I did have to inspect a few before choosing this pair. Some have flaws.

 

I have to ditto the amber polarized lens on cutting glare. I drive with my amber prescription shooting glasses, day and night. Can't beat 'em. Especially awesome when driving in snow! They were only $40 from an online eyeglass merchant. Added benefit of being safety glasses when at those stubborn customers.... Do I look foolish? Do I really care about what others think?
