    Hey guys, Newbie here.

One more day of school training left. Schneider recruiter came in and I was wondering if anyone had any views about the company located in Guelph Ont. I do realize I will be just starting in the business and will pretty well be raped for the first year or two. 6 wk training with them at $560 gross a week, then once your hired it's 31cents a mile to start. With 3 month increments going up to 38 cents after a year. Then to 42 cents after 5 years. They say an average wk will be 2500 miles.

Also some info on Challenger in Cambridge Ont. would be helpful too, I have an interview with the recruiter there on Monday

Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

I would say stick with Schneider if what they claim is to be believed. You will be doing very well from what it sounds like, however do not believe everything the recruiters tell you because almost all of them will lie to you outright. To be at 38CPM after one year in sounds almost to good to be true in my opinion. Do some more research and find a few of their drivers to talk to as well before making final decisions. Buddy of mine worked for Schneider National in Dallas TX for a year and did not have any real big complaints with them assuming this is the same Schneider we are talking about.

It's the same Schneider, we have a major terminal up there in Ontario. Also, the numbers he quoted are accurate in terms of pay. I have no major complaints in the couple months I've been here, although I'm not a company driver.

Training companies like Schneider are raising their starting rates to bring in new students. For example, I worked at Maverick before I came here. Started at .35, moved up to .38 in 3 months, .41 at 6 months, then .42 at a year. Prime is now starting their students out at .42 I believe.

Not sure what type of loads you would expect to see intra canada or loads that you'll take from canada down to the us. But I do know from talking to canada drivers that you will see a whole lot of the Gary and Indianapolis terminals. Canada drivers always are picking up relayed loads in those two terminals that are headed across the border.
