Hey all I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 2015 Coronado 132 thinking of going with new dd16 ghg14 motor ... I have done a lot of research and had my heart set on the dd15 but went to dealer and found out that now with ghg14 that the dd15 has max tq at a multi tq setting of 1550/1750 and 505hp .... Otherwise the best single tq is 1650 ... So now to get 1850 tq you have to go with the dd16 .... I do pull in new York 107k max 3% grade most of the time 75% of the year with dump trailer and the other 25% I do reefer over the road at 80k max .... I really would like some more data on MPG and so far reliability at this point .... I know this motor is new and not many out there so help please Specing truck with the new meritor 40k rears rated at 145gcw at 1650 tq and only 80gcw with 2050 tq I did get approval to run the 1850 tq at 107k do not want to go with 46k rears to heavy get paid by ton So truck will have as follows 2015 freight liner Coronado 132 long hood Dd16 1850tq 530hpAn 18918 18 speed3.55 ratio with double lockers Lp 24.5 40k /13.3k axles 246wb 58inch bunk Truck should run 65mph at 1400rpm

Did you research how long it has been on the market?
How much parts are going to cost?
How ease the part are to get if the need come around if you someday have a part of an engine falt or failure.
Like the price of a injectors or mass air flow sensor and belts and the list goes on.

It maybe a brand new engine, but does it and will stand up your standards.

I my opinion, I would wait a year or 2 until the engine has been out there a while and been well tested by the trucking industry before I get it. Any new product may have problems down the road that may unexpectedly pop up. And if it is a new engine, finding parts maybe a problem and could be very costly.

+1 on what EHB said. Most times being the pioneer with the latest truck motor will bite you. Let the fleets take the hit and stick with what is proven to be reliable. If the dd16 turns out to be a lemon your resale value will suck.

The dd15 is a tried and true motor. It's a workhorse and parts are available anywhere. The kinks are worked out since everyone has one right now. New motor= new problems

Well I thank ya for the feedback so far .... Well Detroit has always had a competitive solid price as far as quality parts service etc... And I do know the DD15 has been proven what I do know is for GHG14 the motor is not much diff then the 2011-2013 motors the main core of the motor is pretty much the same they only changed a few things. just trying to see if guys with the dd16 are having as much luck with those as everyone is with the 15

Now that is a bad comparison (I hope)....
A guy I know just got into a 2yr old Coronado SD for reasonable money, as it never sold, it has the 1850tq DD15 in it. When he was spec'ing a brand new one though, they told him the same thing, 1650 or go DD16 for more. Ridiculous in my book.

dd16 is very close to dd15 just different crankshaft, same block, heads etc they even weigh the same. bore is same stroke is longer, that's why the compression ratio is slightly lower. parts are also the cheapest to buy compaired to any other engine. FILAW just swapped out a dd15 for a dd16 and likes it, doesn't seem to work as hard. yeah its too bad that Detroit is diailing back on the power figures on the dd15 now compaired to 2009 figures. mostly because of emissions and the future econ mpg standards but also so they can upcharge $8000 to get customers to buy the dd16.
