    I've worked at dealerships, the mechanics have the same gripe, they have to keep upgrading they're tools and also have to keep taking classes to stay certified which also comes out of they're own pocket.

    wow guys many replies more than i even thought. i really enjoy all the helpful people on here thanks again. working on cars for a living i seen how it works and for being at a car dealer you fight for every job. esspically since i'm at a new car dealer we only get warranty work which pays very much less than if it was customer pay work. the only thing i will benifit from working on cars for a living is knowing how to fix my own and thats it. but by the end of the year i will be 21 and i plan to summit a few applications and hope to get something. do you guys know if its possible to get a regional job around the chicago area for a newbie.

    I honestly don't blame you dave for wanting out of auto repair. I read countless posts by guys who went to school like UTI and they complain how much working on cars for a living is not a good career. They say no better way to kill your love for cars than to become a car mechanic. I'm sure you can land a regional job out of here, Chicago is a trucking hotspot with lots of opportunities.
