.95 per mile? What am I missing?

I apologize, the data is actually $38,200 average for 2012: (per) That includes the newbies and the supertruckers.

I averaged 2,316 miles per week during the course of my lease. As I mentioned above, most of that was 11 days out and 3 at the house, but occasionally when I wanted to be home on a certain weekend (say, the Superbowl) I would stay out an extra week to make sure my hometime coincided with my needs. I also usually took an extra week or two each year for fun time. Compared to my time as a company driver, I got a lot more home time, had a much more regular schedule and made quite a bit more.

The thing I just can't comprehend is the why. Why do guys sign up for these cpm gigs when there are plenty of carriers paying percentage on good paying freight. The only thing I can figure is they just don't believe us when we say we make x dollars or average y cpm of the odometer.

 

I see the adds in the " truckers wanted and jobs offered" MILES , MILES, MILES . 4000-5000 MILES A WEEKWE CAN RUN YOU ALL THE MILES YOU WANT A WEEK AT .88 A MILES

So you mean you don't want to run a 130k miles, to make twenty thousand less with no benefits? Aww come on man.

 

If you want more quality time at home you will not find it working for 95 cents a mile + surcharge. You will be working to keep an old truck going is all you'll ever do. If you lease purchase at rates like that you'll just be working all the time, period. Even the "success" lease purchase stories will tell you take more than a couple of days off and your settlements will end up being negative, you'll soon create a hole #### near impossible to dig out of. If you want to work 6 months out of a year give or take and bank any true profit at all - the only way to do that is on a good percentage plan or under your own authority. Even at that everyone's learning curve is different. Maybe you figure it out quickly or maybe it takes a few years or maybe you go bust?

This is why I love the Landstars, Mercers & Schneider Choice Programs of the world. Everytime someone asks me about making money over here I tell them "It's up to you" and its literally is. I couldnt imagine leasing my truck to a carrier and still being told when to leave & go home for 1.23 a mile after FSC.

I'm lazy as hell, rarely run over 2000 miles and still usually net of $2K after fuel and deductions. Home every weekend
