I have been in Trucking School for a week and and two days........ The whole classroom thing was easy........ I can back the truck wherever you want me to, with no problems. ( I have backed trailers all my life.) I can drive a stick in a car or truck like a #### Formula 1 driver......BUT.......SON OF A @#$%.......do I suck at double clutching in an 18 wheeler!!!
Today was the first time off the range at school.......We went out to actually try the road......and boy did I suck! The timing is a HUGE problem for me. I always want to shift like a car. I tried everything the instructor told me to do.......nothing worked. I am even sitting here now practicing with my feet. lol. Most of the people in my class sucked too. That atleast made me feel a little better. Then I talked to some of the guys that are graduating this week, and they said they sucked at double clutching too. They told me to give it a few days and i would get it. But I'm not sure......
I just hate not being able to do something right away. Hopefully, I will get better.......but I feel like a total failure right now!
if anybody has any tips for me, please feel free to share! We start on the road again at 7:00 A.m. in the morning. I guess I will continue watching these youtube videos of folks double clutching for the rest of the night.....maybe it will help. lol.
I know it was my first day on the road today, but given my current double cutching skills........at this rate I should get my CDL in the year 2025 or so. Lmao.
I think this may the most frustrated I have ever been in my life! I hope it gets better!
I am possibly the worlds worst double clutcher!

We all suck at double clutching. And if you are truck driver long enough not driving in an oil field you will suck at double clutching too.
-
I hear that from all my trucker buddies too. They all say the last time they double clutched was for the CDL test. lol. We have to double clutch in school and for the road test for CDL. But good lord........I need about 999,9999% improvement before I even think about embarrassing myself in a road test. fml.

I can double clutch enough to pass the test but I don't use it in practice on the road.

Every trucker who I have met has said they never double clutch or they don't need to but when I ride with them, that's what they do.
Many of us, like me, it comes naturally when we are driving. I drive different trucks throughout the week, sometimes a couple during one day and if I didn't know how to work the drive train, I would be in trouble.
By the way, I had to teach a supervisor at one of my customers how to drive their new truck. Spent an entire day teaching him how to work a 10 speed and believe me after three days on the road with him, he is the worst one for double clutching.RookieTrucker7 Thanks this. -
Don't worry about it. Learn skills. Double clutching takes practice. When you learn the "sweet spot" you won't need it anyway. For young drivers it's a skill to learn.

Hum the Adams family theme. The last 2 "dun duns" is your rhythm for double clutching.

Well, I will let you know how tomorrow goes........ I will either be better at double clutching, or possibly have set the truck and school on fire, and quit. Lmao. (Yes this is just a joke. You know some moron will think I am serious.)
Seriously, if I could just figure out how to time everything, I would have it no problem. Maybe tomorrow I can pick my ego up off the ground and do better! I sure hope so!Nightwind8830 Thanks this.
