Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hey clown....
I didn't go rubber up. Just kinda tilted. -
LMAO! That's funny.
Me, I know how to drive a straight 10 but I need to work on it just a slight bit. I hit it pretty decent when I was learning for the first time in a Wiley Sanders truck (T-600) and didn't do bad at all. That's been some time ago though. However I got to try a FL Columbia and man. It felt a lot different for a 10 speed. The truck was ragged out and I won't mention the company because it was very recently but some reason the gear's felt "tighter". My step dad said ####! Those are loose as hell compaired to the KW but I don't see how. It seemed the other way around to me. I like the Columbia though because everything seem's more "driver friendly" to me with the wrap around dash and everything practically at your finger tip's and give's it the big truck feel as to where the air knob's in the KW are under the top half of the dash right infront of the drink holder and it seemed like a car to me because the dash is pretty much flat. I think this was a very poor design as you had to move your drink's (20oz bottles) to pop the parking brake. Floating. Man on man did that spoil me. I got so used to floating gear's in a truck over a very short period of time that when I got in a car with a manuel tranny I didn't know how to act. I ended up shifting a couple of time's in that car without touching the clutch and never grinded a gear.
I was thinking "odd". As for the auto's, it's nice in a car but in a truck I don't think I would care for it to much. Take's the fun out of literally being a "gear jammer" plus I hear some people complain about the auto's going up hill's. Put me in a 10 and I'll get it. Just give me a little time. ####. Now all I need to do is get in school! *cuss cuss cuss cuss cuss* -
Well hmm, maybe someone can verify this as I've heard the opposite on this very site a few times. Basically it was something along the lines if you drive an auto, it has a restriction to being only auto trucks and not manuals.
-
2 more companies that are switching to automatics. Eastern Freightways based out of North Brunswick New Jersey and New Century based out of West Hampton New Jersey.
-
I can 100% verify that for ohio. When I took my test, the 10 speed I had been training in the week prior was having transmission problems. My class did beat the heck out of those trannies lol..But I had to test in one of the auto's they had specifically for the guys who were trainin for pam.So I tested and passed in an auto, and there is NO restriction on my license what so ever.I dont know why people say you have less choice over gears. You can put it in any gear you want, when speed and rpm's match up,just like a regular transmission. That whole "you aint a driver unless you shift" is a hillbilly, smokey and the bandit thing lol.Anyone can learn how to shift, but not everyone can back up,or plan a trip from new york to cali,or take the pressure of bein on the road.Case in point,if you drive a truck, you are a truckdriver. No matter what transmission is in it!!!! -
Anywon can learn to drive a stick huh????????? I`ve had to train a driver who learned on an auto and had to learn a stick. It`s worse then
training a rockie. When I Learned how to drive period (way back in the 70's) where a good percentage of cars had a manual trans also power steering/brakes were not standard equipement.
Yep I`m scarred to see some blond bimbo drive a stick while on her cell phone applying her makeup at the same time.

to the original question, PTL is a company that has autos as well. i drive for USX, ive commented several times about them, you should read what ive said.
-
I think what they mean is you have less control. You'll figure that out in the ice and snow.
-
How do you have less control???YOU have control over the truck, not the tranny in the ice and snow!Control in ice and snow is takin your time, and goin slow. You are gonna go slow, and take your time,no matter what kind of tranny is in the truck..I have yet to hear of some one gettin in an accident cause of the tranny??Please explain how?
