Well you have heard both opinions, and you know what they say about opinions......A little echo does not make you harder to hear. Now I will admit, at my age, too much echo is harder to decipher because of my hearing loss. I find myself turning the sound down if I'm around anybody transmitting with too much echo these days. And, because of all the folks that use too much echo, I wouldn't be opposed for it to disappear from all radios, even though I use just a touch in my radios that have it, but I wouldn't pay to have it put in a radio.
Talk back and echo mods are they worth the money and of real use?

Not many PEPs on the cb anymore. If you can justify the cost for the amount of time you actually use the radio....go to it. Just my 2 abes worth.

Sorry processed. "Peeps"

Professer. My smart phone is not so smart.

You want the truth, here it is.....
Echo, roger beep, noise toys....are toys for truckers, plain and simple.
Just like rebel flag face plates, chrome cases, diamond plated cases, illuminated CB radio knobs....all toys for truckers.
Talkback? Another toy for truckers....used to adjust the echo, which is, as said, a toy for truckers.
Same thing for those Big Betty boob knobs found on some of the Connex radios....toys for truckers....who can't even get laid by the nastiest skank lot lizard in all of the truck stop. So they get a Big Betty Connex with plastic boobs to compensate.
Truckers like these toys because they spend hours in the truck, so it gives them something to fulfill their childish desires. Not much different than those kid megaphones that change your voice sold in toy stores.
Look at any of the radios from the 1970's....none of them had any of this stuff on them. And CB was far bigger then than it is now.
I think I'd rather install a Heil mic for broadcast sound first....most of you probably don't even know what a Heil mic is.....but google it and hear the boomy broadcast sound they have to offer. Beats the hell out of those tinny nasal whiny Astatic 636L's that the truckers love so much. Hell, even a 575-M6 is better.
The problem with echo is people often adjust it too high and makes you sound bad on the air.
Roger beeps are for rare SSB use, but are often used on AM to piss people off. Also used by the Mexicans down south who must be too stupid to figure out when the other party unkeyed.
So there is is.....the truth....
So is echo and talkback worth it? If it means you have to buy it new and pay someone to install it, HELL NO
If you smart enough to know how to install it, and can get all the parts for maybe $10......not really....but if you like being a kid and pissing people off to get your jollies on, maybe.
Spend the $ on getting the best antenna and coax you can so your radio will be fully efficient.handlebar Thanks this. -
Im really liking the Astatic D104M6B that I bought a few weeks ago. It has that clean, smooth D-104 response, especially on my Galaxy 959 with the AMC circuit still intact.

I like my Astatic 575-M6 mic.

One of these days, I need to hook my PR-40 to my CB and see how it sounds...

In short... No and No. See my thread on echo and why people use it. Almost no one liked Echo. The few that did said only if it was a tiny bit. Talkback? Why would you care what you sound like on a speaker attached to you radio? MUCH more important is how you sound to the guy on the other end. Save the mod money and get a high quality power mic. You will certainly sound better.
