I am probably what you would consider regional. I would love to be local. However I am picky about the local job I need. I want day hours only for the kids sake. And of course the money has to be right. I found one local job last year working for an O/O. It was a disaster. I keep looking. Hopefully some day soon.

That's the way I envision it....strictly from a wannabe position, of course.

We only average 8 or 9 hours a day, it's great to get out and enjoy it.

It probably has a lot to do with both the amount of responsibility and the level of responsibility the individual truck driver has at home. What would work for one driver would be an absolute disaster for another.

Driving a truck otr is the only way I'd do it.

Unless some wow offer came up.

All pretty much pays the same.

It can be a vacation if you wanna look @ it that way.

Be lieing if I didn't miss things like golfing playing guitar working out in the pool and other hobbies.

3 days home every 4 months is good enough for me.

I save so much $ living in a truck.
No bills no nagging people nothing to clean ups poop.

Its a different way of life from most folks for sure though.

I was local for five years and had the urge to try regional so I did. That didn't work out and I'm back to local. Same run every day hauling heavy. Paid by the hour and I get home every day and weekends off. I do miss the variety of the regional job but being paid for every minute I work an being home to see my girl and sleeping in my house out weighs the variety of OTR!!

In my short time out im content where I am..as others stated its like a vacation, getting to see places I probably wouldn't see otherwise. Spent the wknd in the "Big Easy" cpl weeks ago that was pretty cool..I inquired about local gig hauling fuel, 12+ hr days, in the FL heat are just not in the cards right now..guess if I found a "to good to be true" situation I would go..

As the op I guess I should tell my own expierence..I delivered soda for 1 year immediately went into regional foodservice distribution (MBM) and life was great for a while. Made great money, stayed in a hotel not the truck two nights a week and I was content.but I was single and then I met my now wife and knew she woud not go forward in the relationship doing what I was doing.so I went over to local and worked several jobs until I got in to the company im at now.. its a pretty sweet gig but I was only hired based on my previous expierence.someone said it best what works for one , may not work for another. But being local I touch plenty of freight and sometimes there is a argument at home where I think to myself I wish I could go on a 2000 mile run! Lol!
