well today was my last day of oreiantation . was suppose to be 3 days but since i was the only rookie and the other 2 guys had a year of experience the process went faster .Got issued my Comdata card and my sign on bonus voucher . Got some qualcomm training . i must say at the end of the day i was overwhelmed with all the paper work a truck driver is responsible for .Bill of lading, how to pay a lumper, what rules you must follow at this plant etc guess it will come with doing it enough .. and while it fresh on my mind what is the average starting pay for someone starting out in dry van? anyways im getting in the truck with my trianer tomorrow lets see how this goes! hope all is well with everyone!

Well Iv been training with " local drivers " the last 2 days .when I say local drivers that means from warehouse around town and also means driving to another state and coming back in the same day. So I'm at home every night while in training . Yesterday I pretty much rode with him we went from Tuscaloosa al to Chattanooga Tennessee . Was a long 14 hours ! Haha . Today I got kinda discouraged , they wanna break me from everything I learned in school . From double clutching to floating ... Etc some of the places they back into can be intimidating. I feel completely out of place watching them. I went to back up in a day cab today I sucked . I got it in there . My trainer said not to bad for a rookie . Iv never driven a day cab just sleepers . They turn a lot different . Really overwhelmed .

Well I was coming to the end of training with iws when I got an unexpected phone call from a gas and supply company with an offer . It's local starting at $18 a hour Monday thru Friday . decided to except it. Start next week . IWS was a great company but being able to stay local with my wife I can't beat that.

It is good that you kept your first job for 3 full weeks. Shows that you are in it for the long haul.

You'll get used to the short wheel base on the day cab. I remember when I came off the road for my local beverage delivery gig, and I was amazed at how on-a-dime I could get that sucker to turn--both forwards and backwards! Just takes some getting used to. Plus you probably have a back window, which means no back is a blindside back!

Also, try not to think of it as them "trying to break you." Simply view it as just another way of doing things, learn from it and then when you get out on your own you can decide which way(s) work best for you. Don't forget to ASK questions!

    Haha,

I scrolled down too quick and didn't read your updated message from today. Best of luck with the new gig. Hopefully you learned some things in that three weeks!
