The one request that I would make is that the trainer is a non-smoker.

Otherwise, it would NOT matter who the trainer is as far as age, sex, race, religion, color, creed, nationality, or foreign ancestry is concerned.

What I would be most concerned about is that the trainer both knows and cares about his or her job. In return, I would try to be both the most receptive and most respectful student that I could possibly be.

The student is there to learn as much as possible in a given period of time. Afterwards, the student is out on his or her own, regardless of whether the student is solo driver or a team driver.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

If your a guy, your not gonna get a female trainer. Thats just a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen,, not to mention, there arn;t many female trainers. Training is only a few weeks. You should eb able to deal with any one for a few weeks.

I think it more or less depends on who you drive for.You go with a company that has a bad reputation by drivers then its remote you'll get the type of trainer you requested.Trainees have been know to wait days for a trainer because companies lack the trainers. So you'll probably have to settle for whatever trainer they give you and deal with it until your training perion has completed.

Female trainees can be assigned to male trainers, but your contention is that a guy assigned to a female trainer is a sexual harassment waitin' to happen?
    Hmmmmmm --------

Somebody better tell those female trainers to leave the guys alone.
    At least 'till they graduate.:smt112

I see where you're coming from, OP. You want an old man or a female trainer because sometimes you have conflicts with guys your own age. That's understandable, because you naturally want to stick with what you know.

I was, "Rookie", "New Blood", "Youngin", and "Boy" when I started. But I was 22 also. Got the bottom end truck and got all the loads that no one else wanted. I don't think that the guys your age are Holes because that's their personality, they've just become accustomed to an extremely high turnover rate. When you're betting that the trainee isn't going to be around in 6 months, what's the point in being nice?

But see, here's the problem: you want to stick with what you know. That's not very good idea going into a career where everything changes mile by mile. There is a reason why some drivers want a dedicated account and there's a reason why most car accidents happen within 2-3 miles from the homestead. If you continue on the path of least resistance, odds are you won't be there 6 months.

Not true. I know a few female trainers (mentors) here at Swift, and they train about as many men as they do women. It all comes down to availability.

I was asked the same two questions as listed above; smoker or non, or female or first available. I said my preference was for non smoking female trainer, but I didn't want to wait. I ended up with a female smoker who was very considerate of my nonsmoking, and rarely smoked in the truck.

TL/DR: You can ask the person doing the assignments, but remember that it's only a request. Most will try to accommodate you. I can tell you that the female students will get priority for the female trainers.

The. Thing to realize is that the more restrictions you have on what trainer you want the longer yoj will have to wait for a grainer... so if tbree new drivers finish orientation the first one to get a trainer is tne one that says first available, the second the one who may wait a week orr two is the female waiting for a female trainer.. the last go out will be the one looking for a non smoking female trainer....

Most companies will allow a female to request a female driver but will not accommodate a male requesting a female driver..

At swift, Can you request home time after orientation before getting assigned a mentor?? If you live close to the terminal.

OP I get where your coming from.I sometimes have a hard time relating to
folks older, and younger sometimes.I like the older dudes, and the times they
came from. The stories, and how they do things.Kinda reminds me of my grandfathers
and how they did things,as opposed to mouthy guys that want you to know they are
GOD of trucking, and your to know it.I give the respect to those that meet me half way.

The females I have no idea about trucking with?I guess as long as she constantly
watches me undress, and gooses me we could make it work :biggrin_255:

You probably won't have time. Typically after orientation, they fly you to Vegas for a party, then 2 days at Laguna Beach where your mentor will pick you up.
