if you are making $87k per year now..with benefits, vacations, retirement etc....You May really want to think this through..Take your time.

I have been an independent Owner-operator since 1993.....My first 3 years of Driving I was a Company Driver In Chicago Peddling LTL crossdopck Freight, made a Good Living,

I Regret leaving that now that im Older- Its Hard on me now

Yes,I Make Great Money..But its Long Weeks....So many intangibles it will make your head spin..Endless Paperwork......Office work and keeping up with compliance

please think it out...Take your Time.

I am thinking HARD ABOUT IT. know from a standpoint of finances it's not the Smartest thing to do but have been at it for 17 years and I don't like/ understand some of the things that are happening in the LTL FIELD ANYMORE.Used to be I knew my job with Both eyes closed but now I don't even know what to expect from day to day.Cant knock the Benefits from the job or the Money I make.Just been researching about a Year and I know what I want but it doesn't Agree with what everybody else is telling me

Redman30 if you are making $87,000/year I would stay put. I'm not saying don't buy a truck, I'm saying stay put. Why not try to add to that while staying where you are. Get a truck, put a driver in it, lease it on until you learn the O/O side. If you lease to the right carrier you can make the decisions, you wouldn't be a "glorified driver" as was suggested. Then you still have that paycheck and a darn good one, while you are seeing if you want the headache of a O/O. Just my opinion.

Well you can burn through $15,000 real fast while waiting for payment. Also most the time, by the time you do the load, invoice and mail bills in and receive check, it's more than 30 days.

Well the ranting and raving some what paid off. Got a small payment. But as of Monday I'm dealing with the shipper directly, and he pays every 7 days of each load. Thank you guys for replying.Just completed my first year under my own authority so I'm still deciphering some things.
