Keep your chin up trucking is all about learning I have trained lots of new drivers and I tell them all the time " when ever something happens keep cool and learn you will make it " to date I am still learning something everyday.

I am schduled to retake test this coming Tuesday, Today I had a chance to go over my brake test on the truck I did the test in. When I built up the air pressure, the Primary rose to about 130 psi the secondary came up to 100 psi, after doing the parking brake test and service brake test my air pressure in the secondary dropped to 70 psi with truck running the primary dropped to 100 psi, I tried doing the 1 min. test 4psi, and the air pressure dropped 10 psi in less than a few seconds. I tried the same test in another truck, but its not road worthy, as the air pressure rose the primary and secondary rose at the same rate, all the way to 120 psi, even after brake test, still had enough pressure to do the 1 min 4 psi test. I contacted the school, they are going to pay for my next test, does this seem like and air leak and to blame on the truck.

Yeah, I would have just explained that the CMV is unsafe to operate and that you identified the issue, but NEVER fully pump down a truck with an air leak- that could cause the truck to roll without brakes... If you do something 'unsafe' (like pumping the air out of a faulty air line) they have to fail you because you should know better (using DOT revenue logic). 100% your school's fault for crappy maintenance... but yeah an air leak can't be treated as a little problem.
That said... Did you remember to check and make sure your hoses were properly connected? Some examiners will pull them off to see if you really know your stuff... and that's a pretty basic 'gotcha'. -
Well I conducted the brake test before behind the cab inspection, part of our instructions. Real good points, Thanks

@Scoots: A truck that is "fully pumped down" will not roll away. Once air pressure reaches the range of 20-45 PSI the emergency spring brakes will activate. This emergency system was created for the specific reason to not have trucks roll away in the event of air loss.

@Ohiogary, I cannot find a website for your school. Do you know if they have one? The way you are explaining the air-brake tests make me believe that they aren't teaching you properly, like they are confusing!?

I do think they are teaching proper, just a malfunction with the truck losing so much air pressure, instructor said we had to conduct a trailer air brake test day before testing, examiner said afterwards that the trailer brakes did not need to be checked. First thing is to make sure your air system was at the proper psi 125, second conduct parking brake test, third service brake test, turn truck off and turn key back on to conduct air loss test , no more than 4 psi in 1 minute, visual and audible test [ around 60 psi], fan brakes down until emergency spring brakes engage {20-45 psi}, and that completes the brake test, problem I had was after service brake test, I only had 70 psi in secondary tank, I should have revved the engine up to 2000 rpms and let it build up pressure, but the compressor should have kicked in at 90 psi any way. I checked the truck yesterday and doing the air loss test, it loss 10 psi in 1 minute due to air leak. I guess I should have told the examiner that the truck loss 10 psi and shouldnt be operated....then Im not sure if they would have let me use the truck for my parking maneuvers ....and definitely not for the road test.

Today was the big test day, got the opportunity to drive for and hour to the test site, was the first to give it a try , passed my pre-inspecton and brake test, did the straight line maneuver, attemped offset, as soon as I got started I had a massive air leak in the cab of the truck, loosing pressure quickly, call the examiner over and explained the problem, he failed the truck. So hopefully the truck and be up and running tomorrow so I can finish my test.
