A 24" is going to hang super low on a low step! You will probably only have a couple of inches of clearance. I have a Fontaine step with a 40 inch bottom deck and 24" box brackets and it's low! Drop it another 4-5 inches and it would be dragging all the time. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1349579412.704943.jpg

Thanks, I'll save it to my file. I live in NY and every cost big $$. I'm just looking for some places along the freight lanes that I run on and able to get in/out of.

Actually, I'm not thinking of mounting them on the bottom of the trailer. It'll go on the front part of upper deck. I'm considering having re-moveable stake pockets added to the sides / front and have short "C" channels w/ locking pins. The space that these boxes will be occupying aren't used all that often and the height of the boxes wouldn't be in the way of most loads that does. If I need to move it to the lower deck, it'll still be lower than the upper deck height / load levelers (depending on loads) and move the stake pockets to adjust to side or back mounting or what have you, so the boxes could be mounted across or side ways on the deck. I've seen too many boxes bottomed out or damaged and what not, not to mention that most of those boxes are too small for the price tags they come with. I'm thinking top and/or front opening but not sure yet. I got diamond plate stainless steel 3 doors enclosure headache rack, so matching look would be great. The trailer that I've ordered comes w/ (1) 12" x 18" x 60" - great for straps, porta-winches, winch bars, etc... (misc small stuffs) but I need enough rooms for felt paddings (10' x 15'), tarps (2) 20' x 24', (1) 20' x 27, 8' smoke tarp w/ 6' flap, few poly tarps, etc... That's why I'm looking for useable storage instead of these "think inside the box" universal boxes AND brackets they charge arms and legs for but don't address the real storage need. Don't know, maybe after getting quotes - I'll just go to Wal-Mart and get an oversize dog house or kids' play house and strap it to the upper deck and store everything in it. I'm just looking for better options.

Okay, I see what you're doing now. 48x24x24 is a standard size that wouldn't come with a custom charge. I like these Bawer's and they will be on my next trailer, not these roadgear crap I have now. The brackets I have are factory Fontaine and are the best I've seen. The universal brackets leave a lot to be desired. Check these boxes out http://tarpstop.com/Bawer_Stainless_Steel_Underbody_Storage_Boxes.php

I too have been specing a low step and storage is a concern, but so is unloading and moving boxes on the top deck just to use it. The only logical answer is to get a tarp system, but then what do you do about oversize? Good luck in your search.

Bawer is the best I've found. i think I am even going to get rid of my Sturdy-lite step box door and getting a stainless Bawer door for it :)

I need 2 - 24x24x60 or 24x24x48, bigger is better, underbody storage boxes, in aluminum w/stainless barn doors or the whole box in stainless. Anybody has them for sale or can help me get them? I was thinking of highway products boxes - any thoughts? - besides the fact that they are expensive. I tried tarpstops and they are out of the bawer boxes.

Man,, those Bawer boxes are sweet.

But I digress, all the Brunner stuff I've seen is top shelf. I've been to their place and I can see where it would be easy to get carried away.

One suggestion,, on the 24x24 or larger get swing doors. I once had 24x24x60 boxes with a single drop down door and putting stuff away was a PITA lifting it over a 24" door and into the box.

Think this stuff through and don't compromise if you can, aka "wished I would'a"

I've called brunner, their stuff is beyond expensive, not to mention the shipping fee. I'm in NJ. When I spoke with their rep, he told me that they build the box in aluminum and then wrap it in stainless, if I wanted the stainless option-I think that is the waste of material and customer's money. Why not just build it with stainless from the start? I've spoken to the "highway products" and they are expensive too, over bawer boxes. However, since I can't find any bawer's my size in stock, I would have went with the highway product's boxes if their stainless door up charge was not the additional $300 to the price of the already expensive unit.
