Yep, it almost makes me feel like the industry is punishing me for getting out for a few years.
Update:
Still nothing. Spoke with another recruiter yesterday and of course he states no one but Lisa would consider me. Same old excuse, blaming it on "insurance". Yeah, ok...
Also noticing that alot of recruiters don't call back or return even return a simply and sometimes easier method, emails... I'm just following up on the "pre-qualify" phone interviews that they all have ya go through. Very frustrating to say the least.
Dropped an app to the carrier that Scarecrow03 pm'd me with as well, thanks again driver!
They'd rather hire newbies, Huh?

Gosh, that's so stupid!! It'd be easy as pie for you to get a job around here - having that experience would make you an ideal candidate. Unfortunately, it is very different in the US from all who post here. I hope you find something soon!! Good luck!!!

I live in southern NYS.Even though I am employed,I still like to scan the ads and internet to see whats new out there.Ryder and Penske, both are rental and lease companies supplying trucks to the industry. However, they both offer logistic services to some of their larger corporations under contract.I have contacted them in the past and they do seem to have work available, both local and regional. The jobs vary, some no-touch freight, some hands on freight. Some are nights, some are days.Check out their websites or just stop in to one their local branches. It couldn't hurt just to check it out.The thing I liked most about them, is that all though you are driving for one of their companies under contract you are still employed by Ryder or Penske. If a contract fails or you wish for a different company that they have under contract at least you have some options.Pay and benefits didn't seem so bad either.

witchwaywest, funny you mention Ryder, as I did the pre-interview-qualify mid last week, passed, and now I'm playing phone tag with their recruiter named Christine B. I was told she would contact me back, notta, so I left her another voicemail yesterday afternoon. As of this post, she has not called back.
Called another local dumptrailer outfit who ran an ad in the local paper here this morning. Owner out on the road all day, and he will call me back this evening, according the lady who answered this morning.
Hey Scarecrow03, I got your PM thanks!(i can't reply back yet as I don't have enough posts under me belt here on the board)
It's now 14:15 EST here, so I'll call them in another hour as you mentioned. Do you get a referral bonus out of this, and if so shall I just mention the online name that you use here? -
ITS will give you weekends off, but here in Indiana they also liked to ask for volunteers on weekends. I don't think that happens as much at their other locations.
It's kinda sad, but I burned myself out on OTR after just shy of 5 years. Guess that's what I get for (at times) staying out for as many as 9 weeks.
-
ouch Scarecrow, 9 weeks at a time, now that's burning the candle from both ends! Note: I also left a voicemail for Kevin at ITS, so hopefully he will call me back, if not, I'll call again.
Hey MedicineMan (I can't pm back just yet), thanks for the PM info , and in fact I am currently working with a lady from Texas who has submitted my app and authorization letter to them, and I just in the last hour, got off the phone with her office to check up on the status, and they have yet to respond. She told me sometimes they respond in a few days, and other times it's a few weeks, so we'll see. She also stated that this company is one of her favorites to work with, and I know a couple of other drivers who drove for them back in the 90's and loved em' so... we'll see.
Thanks again Driver! -
I know maverick will hire you too and put you with a trainer for a bit. they will take anyone with a cdl but they are picky on there physical and just about everything else. read the posts on them. I was going to go there and probably made a mistake by not going.

Gonna give him the benefit here as he's surely busier than I am right now. If I don't hear back from him by noon tomorrow, I'll call him again...
