Wal-mart will match up to 6% on 401k. "Gap has been shrinked" means that we used to be much more efficient in transportation and retail expense control than other retailers. In the last 10 years, other retailers have begun to be more efficient in their operations, too, so the gap is closing. Once you reach a certain level of efficiency, we have to work harder to eliminate waste with less payback in expense control.
Walmart here I come!

Thank you. Now is Wal-Mart doing away with assigned trucks and going to all slip seating or after a few years do you get an assigned tractor?
-
We have a lot of shared trucks where three people run two trucks, the twelve bottom guys out of 135 slip most of them are the newest folks. I noticed when I slipped almost everyone takes all there stuff out every tour. I started Jan 12 14 since I took a bid called Metro witch is nights, only Chicago mostly small format stores I work 5 on 2 off, someone can drive my truck while I'm off, but nobody has
The slipping is very fair, but you have to wash and fuel after each tour, Guess what the only two things drivers at Walmart don't get paid for...Boy Howdey Thanks this. -
Mechanics/fuelers get paid to fuel your truck. If I'm in a truck for my whole week, it gets washed. If I'm in one truck for 3 days, and another for 2, I am not expected to run it through the wash. Also if I am done with the truck and it has more than 1/2 tank of fuel, I do not need to pull into the fuel bay to have the paid mechanics/fuelers, fuel it again.
Boy Howdey Thanks this. -
They must have different rules at each dc about fueling and washing the trucks
-
Yes they do. Every DC is different. For the very rare occasion that I actually have to fuel my truck, I don't mind doing it. It is more exercise than sitting in the cab and watching someone else do it. It is also "old school", in the fact that "back in the day", every driver fueled their own truck, as it was part of the job, just like adjusting your own brakes, and actually knowing how to replace a light bulb.

We have a goal of about 50 drivers on programs. We probably have another 50 who are on extra board work 5/2 without an assigned tractor.
The last 70 work with assigned tractor on 5/2. So it can take a number of years to get to the point of getting an assigned tractor. WM wants their equipment to be productive 7 days a week, while the drivers work a 5 day week that is why the slip seating. -
Red bluff, ca DC just opened up. Anyone know if a driver with only 11 years experience has a chance getting on at redbluff? I deliver there every day with my current job and I'm pretty close with some of the guys at the truck gate and one of them told me Walmart hired a driver last year with only 3 years otr experience (a former WM hostler that left got a cdl got 3 years OTR then applied for WM and got it). I think he's pulling my leg... What you think is it possible?
-
Not pulling your leg. Well...he MIGHT be but it's not out of the question. I got in with 6.5 years experience and beat out many others with much more time than I had, but your record is more important than the number of years on the road. Walmarts minimum requirement is 3 years along with the miles per year they want. But your record, should you meet the years/miles is your key. They look for spotless records. Best of luck.

Do they have a pet policy? I am going to say probably not, but I have to ask. Thanks.
