So as I'm going through my list of things that I need advice on, my fuel gauge is stuck on empty, it's not working. I believe it did move to full one time. But I'm not sure it did, as I had just gotten into this truck and there was so much else wrong I had to focus my attention on more immediate concerns.

The red light that is on for low fuel has electrical tape over it so I'm gonna assume this has been a problem for a while.

So any ideas on what it is, and or how I could test what it is to confirm the diagnosis?

Thanks again this this forum is a real life saver.

It could be a wiring issue, so check the connections by the tank. If it looks OK, pull the sending unit out of the tank. They changed the design because they were breaking off. Do not be surprised if you take the screws out and only the cap comes off. That means that the rest of it is in the tank and you need to go fishing. If it all comes out in 1 piece, you're lucky.

Since the red light is on, I'd have to guess that the Namux side of things is working and just not getting the right signal from the sending unit. Your gauges are multi-plexed, the control unit tells the gauges what to do and all the gauges are all connected together by a data link. If the gauge failed, then the control unit would still be getting a good signal from the fuel level sending unit and not turn on the red light. Since the red light is on, the control unit must be sensing low fuel, which means the problem in the circuit from the sending unit to the control unit.

take out the sending unit. Use very fine send paper and send resistor lightly . you will see a dark marking on it .remove the marking with the sand paper then bend the tip of the copper tab slightly to ensure good contact with the resistor. when you move the arm you should hear swishing sound put back the sending unit correct position. Before finish installation hook up the wire move the arm up and down ,turn on the ignition key and check the gauge it should read correctly. good luck
