My Averitt adventure

no it's no secret and well documented across the forum who I drive for. I guess you're spending too much time making sure you've got the right shoes, shirt and pants on and that you're clean cut enough for the powers that be to click 2 times on my profile page to see who I drive for.....so i'll save you the time and effort and say I drive and train for Epes out of Greensboro.

of course that comment was as facetious and sarcastic as yours was.

I actually am on my 2nd trainee that came to us from averitt and they both tell the same story. low miles, low pay, too much micromanagement, too worried about 'image' and too much sitting. one of them was there 8 months, the other 6. these guys aren't slackers. they run hard, they know how to manage their time and are good drivers overall. they weren't given the opportunity to succeed with averitt. if it was just one guy I could see it being a disgruntled issue. 2 of them telling the same story looks more like a pattern. they both were pleased to be running now instead of sitting and what their check looked like. both said they made substantially more the first week on my truck as a trainee than they did at 8/6 months respectively previously solo.

that said, I imagine it's like any other company and there are those that learn to work within the system and work it to their advantage and succeed, and those that don't.


the main thing for both of us is that we found somewhere that works for us. personally I can't be told what to wear, how to look and how to act. puts me in the mind of tmc or ups or any other company where image and looking the part means more than anything. my company puts a premium on job performance, not how long my hair is or what kind of shirt and shoes I wear.....within reason, of course they do require we present ourselves in a professional manner and be well groomed and clean and that's as it should be.....but they don't make it a condition of employment to look just like every other driver and protect their 'image'. Our on time, quality customer service is our image, not what we look like.

it doesn't say anything bad about either one of us. it works for you and you're happy. mine works for me and I'm happy. sounds like we're both doing well where we are......I know I am at over 50k into my second year and tracking to do mid 50's this year. that put's us both way ahead of 90%+ of the drivers out here who aren't happy where they are.

Well I'll edit my comments as well and we can both gracefully exit the conversation and both be the better men and agree to disagree on almost every point.

I simply answered a question based on information I have first hand from people who have been there that mirrored other comments made about the company.

I'll unsubscribe from this thread because as you state their policy clearly does not affect me nor will it ever.

as I stated before where we're at works for each of us and that's all that matters. It puts us both way ahead of the majority.

 

Your pay does not top at .37 pm. I know this because I am making .41 pm and that is not the top of the pay scale either.

Uniforms aside, I think we all know drivers who get out of their trucks wearing clothing that should of already hit the rag bag. Wether it was the T-shirt that had profanity on it or the sweats that had holes in them or the pants that showed more then just a plumbers crack I think we have all watched these drivers and cringed. If you want to wear that stuff at home or on your 34 hour restart fine, but when you walk in to represent yourself if a professional manner then you should act and dress accordingly.

 

Well I can say this. I think they have a good conception "paper", but there are some flaws. I'm hired out of cdl school with them. I have military experience driving flatbed, so they put me in their 3 week training. I felt a little set up for failure. My trainer was good, but he like other trainers I here focus on e log training. When you get you own truck , you're on paper logs. I've been with them for about a month on my own now, and I'm looking for the exit.
