After reading the article,I can't help but to feel sorry for this poor driver. He learned the hard way about how dangerous it can be in this job.Too many drivers depend on the GPS without even glancing at the atlas.Who reads signs anymore.Blame it on the GPS is not true at all.Blame the drivers.

Notice how his Boss had "No Comment"?

Just a Shame...I know that driver feels bad, Anyone with a conscience would be almost in tears if they hurt a bridge like that. (Except for overweight hillbillies driving a W-900 with 8" exhaust and talking Jokes on the CB all day,They'd give you a deep Belly laugh like Santa Clause if they Broke the bridge)...I mean Look at what they do to truckstop bathrooms.... Every Single Coat hook on the stall door is Ripped off.EVERY SINGLE ONE.. Anyway,Back to this touching story

...trucking probably isnt for him..I really can tell he feels bad, made a dumb Move and its going to hurt his trucking career

I have been running around just outside NYC for the last 2 days and my gps (rand McNally 720) has directed me down a few different parkways. I know better than to listen to it all the time. I have all the parameters with my height and weight set up but it still tries to send me down streets that are a definite no go for a big truck. Even though it is also set up for No u turns it still tries to get me to make them every once in a while. Ya gota use commen sense. And plan your trip accordingly. If I blindly followed my gps my short trucking career would of ended just after it got started

Also I am glad to hear I am not the only 1 that occasionally ducks when going under a bridge especially when they are marked 13'6 13'7 or 13'8

The piece if mind I have is that my antenna is about 1 inch higher than my truck/trailer. So if the antenna clears it I know the rest will LOL

He must have been using a Garmin! :biggrin_25525: My Rand McNally would have avoided that bridge for sure!

    I should use your setup!!"

All I have is a chain of flags attached to my employer QC/tracker acquired from a cities festival.

My rand McNally hasn't directed me under any low bridges but it has tried to send me down dirt roads, narrow nieborhood streets, and routed that are off limits to trucks including multiple parkways around NYC

Read my previous posts on this thread. I always check my route against the Atlas and read signs. That is why I don't let it get me into trouble. Just because it tells me to go down a dirt road or a parkway doesn't mean I actually do it
