I am sorry for the un professional part of the post. Sometimes the caveman in me pokes it head out of the cave and sees springtime.
Companies need drivers. The fact that Marten fired him will only slow him down. It won't stop him. I worked for Transport America for 3 days before they fired me.
Truthfully, what I believe happened was that he had a tire blow. Then he tried to think of what he did that caused it to happen. All he could think of was that he downshifted wrong and maybe that caused it. He did what a MAN does and stood up to take the blame. Safety which is in the business of finding something to blame the driver for went with it and fired him.
Brakes are suppose to be anti lock. So I have a problem with him being able to wear out the brake pads. I don't think he could have forgotten to let the air off the trailer brakes either. So, I would say that when the tire blew it knocked the brake pads off. Road hazard.
When I was teaming, my co driver ran over a tire tread (alligator) that tore out the brake lines. Road hazard. Things break out there.
Start applying for new jobs today.
And again, forgive me for my lack of gentlemanly behavior.........and you are right. I couldn't handle the truth.Big Don, justa_driver, Menehune and 7 others Thank this. -
more to the story for sure...
sounds like he was coming down a grade, riding the brakes, they got hot, and the heat blew the tire. Needs to have some actual training on how to drive a loaded semi. -
Whats your husband saying about this? Not a good way to start a company.Martin has real good equipment from what ive seen on the road. Its costly to have brk pads replaced not too mention the huge labor cost.Don't be surprised if husband receives only a pay stub in the mail.

Do we think they are justified? Sorry, but there is not anywhere near enough information for us to have an opinion on that.
And because of not having the information, there are folks on here who are talking about your husband not being driver material. And THEY don't have the information to be saying that. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but from just what we see here, there is no way to know.double yellow, Joetro, gpsman and 7 others Thank this. -
Perhaps you are thinking of Martin, not Marten?????
Well Ms Pattj, I don't know that you can only take a look at Marten's equipment and come to your conclusion. Perhaps you'd like to read all the other threads that talk about the fact that they, at times, fire drivers so quickly their heads spin. Go ahead and search that out.
As for others that obviously did not read all the other replies, it had been said over and over that he was likely going too fast/somehow rode the brakes too hard. Repeating that same information isn't much of a reply.
I have to say I appreciate Wooly Rhino's theory that it should not have been possible to cook the brakes, considering they are anti-lock...Last edited: May 1, 2014

Aaahhh... A wise man speaks!

Have y'all ever thought he has a Qualcomm that tells on him. How hard he brakes, speed etc...?? Sound to me he went down grade and when he called it in the first thing they did was research his monitor for all the facts. Possibility....

Thanks, but I'm not all that wise, just kind of old.
You did ask, "What would you do in this situation?" It seems to me, like about the only thing HE can do, is to try his best to move on. And the best thing you can do, is be supportive of him, (unless you have other reasons not to be.)Tonythetruckerdude, justa_driver and daf105paccar Thank this. -
I haven't read much about Martin and their equipment.Never been up close either but I have seen Martins in fuel isles, next to me parked at trk stops and on the road. From what I have seen, the trks and trailers looked well maintained but of course I could be wrong and maybe the brk pads were worn to begin with which would mean the driver didn't do a proper pretrip. If their equipment is that bad and not DOT ready then drivers needs to say something and refuse to drive till it meets their standards.I certainly wouldn't chance it driving something that didn't look right same with the trailer, thats an accident waiting to happen.I would quit first.
