Class-A, and I run 5 axle.

I haul coal off road. We drive tandems Mack Granites, GUs and RDs. Its all off road and the trucks get junked real easily. I have broken 2 pilot caps in the past 2 months.
We get paid by the ton with no weight restrictions. Haul all you can that fits in the bed. I usually make good money until the summer. The mines slow down a lot in the summer.
All our truck have walking beams, springs cant stand up to the beating. You are always going up hill or down hill so you better check you brakes and jake every morning.
I can usually make 2000 a half until summer then the pay gets cut in half or worse. Non union.
Turnover is high. You got to have a set on you to haul on those roads and a lot of guys dont have the nerve. -
what happened to this thread.... we need more about dump drivers....please!!!!.....

i dont get it, and forgive me, how someone simply said just go take your test for your class B lic.... it does include a road test ya know, we arent ,stuffed animals!.... class b drivers are as important as A's it gets so old watching a's look down upon b's when many of us have been doing this for the same amount of years as others have. yup, no gps, no scales, no anything but us knowing better.... 4 wheelers are horrible, but i just dont know why we cant stick together..... even though on this very day i watched a single axle dump cut between a full fuel tank and myself, a full 6 axle, and that was followed by a farm hauler running 20 mph over the limit.... both cut us off.... not trying to make this a cry thread but safety is the goal, this is what was reffered to as watch as they act stupid, they will! i drive a six ax, am paid by hour.... try to be as safe as possible.... always try to help fellow big trucks.... i would like to ask a new question on this thread if possible since i se no other place to ask local, dump, etc.... any insight on gps models that work well in this area.... thanks.... will deff review posts but wanted tp ost and maybe re-start dump talk!!!!!!

Well, it just so happens that I'm sitting on the can, and I had Mexican food for dinner last night..
Oh, wait. Wrong kind of dump.
They have a lot of stuff here in Colorado that I never got to play with back in North Carolina.. side dumps, belly dumps... and they apparently don't believe in pushers here, except for the occasional superdump that you see running around here.
Working for a road builder, I was primarily a lowboy driver/equipment operator, but I'd have to run a quad axle dump on occasion... didn't matter to me, as I was paid the same, either way, and I never had to deal with pilot cars (if you've dealt with the ########## I've had to deal with, you'd be less than fond of them, too) and permits. Even owned two end dumps (one short 30' framed with two pushers, and one 40' frameless).
Other than asphalt, the only other dump truck driving I've done was hauling landscape materials and supplies for Pioneer Sand... they had an opening on the tandem side, and the tandem side got paid O/T hours, whereas the tractor-trailer and transfer side didn't. They had me on the transfer side for a bit to run the lowboy after the previous driver had gotten into an accident, but I didn't want the gig permanently, as it didn't pay any more than what they paid the five axle drivers, and I liked the tandem side, doing residentials... if they weren't going to put me on the excavating side, then that's where I wanted to be.
We had one ####### front end loader operator... first day running solo on the job, and I have to pick up a load of 6-12" stone... I see the loader operator come up with his bucket lifted all the way in the air, and I knew right away that what came next wasn't going to be pleasant. Guess it was his way of "breaking in the new guy".
I'm actually trying to get back on with Pioneer on a part-time basis... tools are expensive, you know? Hopefully, I'll be able to run dumps and the flat & fork for them again.
That's all I really got this thread.. just wanted to post something in the spirit of reviving it. -

I live in Northern Ontario, Canada. I drove tri axle gravel bucket for almost 4 years and now I have a 5 axle live bottom belt trailer. I've always managed to find good paying jobs with good equipment but there are plenty around here who have crap pay/trucks!!!
