Thanks for the answers, I probably wont bring my laptop to school. I have a bit of money invested in it and honestly dont really want the distraction of having to account for it 24/7. I also have one of those phone/tablet (phablet) hybrids, so If i need to look something up, or send email, or whatever I can do it from that.
Home is about 10 hours away in Pennsylvania, As long as I have a day or two I will be fine, The wife and stepdaughter have said they can meet me half way or closer if need be to get my car and bring me whatever I might need for the otr portion of my training, like my computer and what not. I'm not one of these guys who needs to be connected to everything all the time. So I might not even bring my computer during my training at all.
I plan on making my decision this weekend, and getting to whichever school I decide on as fast as I possibly can. So maybe, just maybe that will put me in Indianapolis, with a weekend off, for the Indy 500.....grab a cheap infield ticket, yeah that'll work lol -
Yikes, I guess with a bunch of new inexperienced drivers it's bound to happen sooner than later. What happened to the two drivers involved?
Glad everyone is ok! -
It was really very minor. The driver that made the right turn across the front of our truck got a refresher in using her mirrors and being aware of her surroundings and those of us in the truck she hit got a really easy way to remember how quick a normal situation turns dangerous. There were two little scrapes on the truck.mr.steampunk Thanks this.

I am glad you realize how something tragic can happen so fast. It happens every day . Being aware of your surroundings is so very important . Even traveling down the road it can happen. some one passing has a laps of attention and forgets where you are and begins to go back to the right lane , your truck gets hit but at highway speed.
It is not a minor scratch then. Check those mirrors often.
Do all of us that share the road with you a favor.
If you are one of the drivers that use what looks like a 3 gallon super large drink cup don't be drinking out of it if you are passing or being passed, PLEASE. That drink cup ( jug) is so big you can't see around or over it so don't drive blind even for a couple of seconds.
You all be safe and have a great day.. -
Day 10: It's Friday!! It's Friday!!
I wasn't assigned to either the AM or PM range today so I was thrilled when my name was called to drive. I am told that it is supposed to alternate daily between range and drive but it hadn't been following that pattern.
We were quizzed on our in-cab and 4 point today. If I don't have them memorized by the 4th time I am called to drive, I get booted out of the truck and left behind to study them.
I got to take the truck on the freeway today. If only I never had to leave the freeway...
I am thankful that I am still hesitant about entering intersections because the instructor told me to proceed through the intersection but one of the students that was taking his road test (going the opposite direction) made his left turn right after she said that and I was able to stop in time. I still suck at shifting but I am getting better, slowly. I played hookie after the afternoon role call since I wasn't assigned to anything else and went home because It's Friday! It's Friday!
Have a great weekend everyone.Spm and mr.steampunk Thank this. -
Day 11:
Today was the beginning of the third week. I believe those who survived the paperwork shuffle and testing (I believe we lost about 7 people that started at the same time as I did) has their permits and is assigned to trucks and the backing range. My goal is to get everything I need to learn done by the end of my fourth week, which means 9 days left and counting. I don't know if I will make my goal but I intend to give it my best.
My roommate got her CDL today so now I get to bug her for information about what comes next.
I believe it took her over six weeks but she passed her CDL test on the second try. The CDL testing is done at Schneider's Facility here in Indy which is just a few blocks away.
Since the posts are likely to get fairly repetitive from this point, I will switch to posting every other day or when I learn something interesting that I think everyone would like to know.
Thanks for reading!JZenn Thanks this. -
Anyone hear anything about career tech in florida for cdl school?

There are some advanced search tools available to search the thread. You might try using those. I have not heard anything about that school.

Thanks Dum. I'm following your story. Celadon is an option I am considering. Good luck. I look forward to reading about your experiences. Just wanted you to know someone is very interested in what you have to say. Thanks for posting.
