This is not surprising, and I don't blame you for not wanting to train.
I would however suggest it may be time to move on. You have the experience to drive for a better company with better pay.

 

Lots of trainers and their students have been
killed in accidents. It happens all the time. If
you do decide to be a trainer and get someone
you think is dangerous just drop him or her off
at your closest terminal. If your being trained by
someone you think is incompetent just get off
the truck ASAP. No job is worth getting killed for

 

Trainer stories!

The person who evaluated me at my last company and trained me to load and unload tankers (one week) was banned from the power station we went to pick up flyash. Why? Because he put the spout down and started to load. Then he went to go get his bills. Then he went to go sit up in his cab and do some paperwork. By that time the flyash was coming out the top of the tank and probably through the blowdown pipe (although it didn't matter at that point). He jumped out of the truck and started back to the shutoff switch, but the cloud had gotten so thick he couldn't see anything. So he headed back around the other side of the truck at about the same time my friend, who was waiting in line behind him, jumped out of his truck and ran for the shutoff switch. They both got near the shutoff switch at about the same time. I say near, because, they never did find it. The dust cloud had gotten so thick nobody could see anything. Ash was thigh deep before it was turned off.
That wasn't the end for him, though. Not even close. Not even as a trainer. The end came for him when he wouldn't allow his last test subject to run the air conditioner, in the truck, in summer, in Florida, and while the student unloaded a tank, he opened a can of sardines let the can sit in the sun on the dashboard. For some reason, he got that nasty juice all over the dashboard too. Think of the smell of the nastiest lot lizard's privates you can imagine. That's it! The test subject came back from the job, got out of the truck, and quit immediately.
We had another trainer (long time trainer, 8 years) who lost his training priviledges because he pumped two loads of white cement (the expensive crap) up into the flyash silo at a paver plant. He knew something was wrong because white cement started coming out the top of the silo! That wasn't the end for him, though. The end for him was when he ran over the fuel island at the terminal.

Trainers! Good lord.

By the way, the first trainer I mentioned made me ride with someone else because I drove too slowly. It was my first time pulling a tanker and I was a little light on the hammer, I'll admit. But I didn't roll it over and that's what mattered!

Those were good times. I loved that company.

 

So many laws because trk drivers are the unsafest ppl on the road as FMCSA sees it.But they don't see anything wrong with trainers that have less then a yr exp training and they don't see anything wrong with usng trainees for team loads.Are there any laws solely on behalf of trk drivers and the ones coming into this industry?

 

Man if you live in Indiana you can do MUCH better than this.

 

I am with werner also.. get on a dedicated account.. your are rignt, with OTR as a solo driver you are low in the pecking order.. teams, trainers then the solo driver... it is not like that with the dedicated accounts.. I wojldnt do the dollar general or family dollar accounts.. too many accidents and injuries... if tbere is an intermodal or dray account avajlable in area get on that.. the pay is good, much better than OTR and you keep busy.. I run 2500 to 3200 miles a week..

 

I could never be a trainer. Trucking is stressful enough without having to babysit someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Don't know how you guys and gals do it.

 

Why would you train others too take your income? You would be doing the company dirty work for measly extra pay. 99.9% chance you will never ever see your trainee again ( not a true coworker to help you out )

Sure, trainee calls up after solo with questions, But can they offer assistance like a true co worker? ( no )

Not enough money to take that kind of risk ....not to mention living in a semi with a stranger in a 10 by 10 space traveling all other the country ,camping in parking lots ,eating beans and rice ....wow
