Brother, you owe it to yourself, and the people you love, and love you, to go out and get a dash cam. I don't drive anymore, but if I did, that's the first thing I'd get. The way these fruit cakes drive now, it's you're only defense. Next would be the mini-fridge. My guts can't handle that high priced drek out there.

I've got a RM 510, a 2014 RM MC Atlas, company directions (a joke if ever there was one), directions from the girl who works the reception desk, and directions from the guy who works the receiving dock....and I still go "on an adventure" at times!

That said, I do use my GPS regularly. After I program it, confirm the route with my old "dinosaur" atlas, and choose which way I'm actually gonna get to where I'm going. It's somewhat amusing to listen to the GPS scream and holler when I ignore it in town, though.....

Well, if you all would like to try old style? Take your cell phone, Gps, Computer, and other electronic devices and throw them out the window. Plan your whole trip by map, and a call from the local pay phone to the shipper/receiver. Use paper logs, and call dispatch each morning from the local rest area or truck stop pay phone and tell him/her where you are etc. By the way those little square stick ups work great for sticking your directions to the inside of the windshield. Good luck. It can be done, that is the way I remember it.

The nice thing about gps is the street or road sign can be down and u still won't miss the street,as has happen following directions. No one system is perfect.have found a lot of nice 4 lane roads that arent in the atlas.
Hi droflex, that's true, but you talk distracted driving, I've seen many people staring at their GPS, and not looking where they are going, when a little pre-trip planning, like the old days, is all that's required. Matter of fact, that's another thing. Try and find a map at a gas station nowadays. On a recent trip to L.A., that place is so big, I had to find a map, just to get my perspective as to where I was. It took 3 gas stations before I found a map, a Shell, I believe, and they were $6 bucks, and covered with dust. Remember they used to GIVE maps away?
:D :D :D

Ahhhh, remember the days when every gas station had attendants that would trot out to fill your tank? Not only that, but they were reliable folks to ask for directions. Nowadays if you ask for directions you get a blank stare.

You must be hauling oilfield stuff if you're on the 4-digit state routes in PA...either that or milk. 99% of those are restricted and require a road bond. Though the only route 2005 I remember was over in between US-29 and US-11 in Springville. We had a few well sites nearby when I was running oilfield out there. Can't off hand think of one between Liberty and Mansfield...
