Expect to see a lot of the PA turnpike, a lot of loading in Lancaster and unloading in Minster, OH. The Baltimore yard ain't the greatest, worse now the closed the "shop" (one hardworking mechanic and some space inside the UTS warehouse isn't my idea of a shop but it was better than nothing). Rob, the guy who runs the office down there is a right friendly fella, the girls know their jobs. The UTS guys can be a bunch of clowns at times, though. If you are working directly out of Baltimore, chances are you will get loaded straight out of there on Monday, boogie off to run your week, and bring a Friday load right into Baltimore to close. Pretty good location for the company, obviously. You may see some New England, but not much. Mostly be running back and forth from Baltimore to Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky and back.

What does F&S pay for new drivers and how much is the sing on bonus they mention on the website?

Flatbedders start at .35/mile with a half cent raise every six months until you hit .40/mile. Sign on bonus is $1000, half on your first paycheck, the other half after 90 days.

Thanks brsims. I live about 50 miles south of Rushville. Do they let you take the truck home? What is their rider policy?

Zero rider policy. Mostly running in and out of various steel mills, and they have a bunch of rules about random people wandering around. Also no pet policy. As far as taking the truck home, you'll have to ask during orientation. I'd say yes, as I got to take mine home, but I live just over two hours from Brilliant, OH. With you being that close, I don't want to say one thing and have the company say something else.

Being that close to Rushville, you will most definitely see an awful lot of NAS in Ghent, KY. Just pop over the Markland Dam and go west on US Hwy 42.

Thanks again brsims. Getting ready to retire from the Army and get back into driving again. Got an offer for a REAL good paying job in VA, but I just can't do IT work anymore. Going to a school in June to get my CDL again and then hit the road. Waiting on Mike to give me a call back to discuss when to put in my app.

OK, just spoke to Meagan Jump in recruiting.

This is what she told me (exactly what brsims said):

New drivers start at 35cpm; experienced can start at 37 cpm. She mentioned something like 5 years experience.
    No rider policy
If you live 50 miles or more from the terminal you usually can bring the truck home. They can make exceptions if it makes sense.
Orientation is one week. They are putting together a program for new drivers that have never had any experience or folks like me that may just need a refresher.
Military time driving trucks can be taken into consideration.

So far I like what I am hearing from them. I started my app online, but didn't finish it. She saw it and called me. Very pleasant to speak with too. I have called several companies for info, and a bunch of them acted like you were bothering them and we kind of rude.

My 2 cents so far. More to follow down the road hopefully.

I don't know Meaghan personally, but I can tell you that Fraley is hands down the friendliest company I've ever worked for. When you get to Rushville, tell Dave (shop) Brian said "hi!"

Nice to hear some real positives about a company. I have talked to a couple of their drivers. They had no complaints. Good luck GearWarrant. Good insight brsims.

Can't wait to get all this started. Right now I am in waiting game letting time pass to get back home. Thanks for the replies. It would be nice if some current drivers found this thread and chimed in.
