Likely because there are a number of different dedicated accounts available at any one time. They are looking for drivers motivated to run dedicated to bring "into the fold". I'd be surprised if Swift is hiring dedicated drivers from outside existing Swift drivers, meaning that they would hire you to run regular OTR first, then after a few months demonstrating the ability to run on time and without incidents they would consider your application for dedicated. My understanding is that the best dedicated accounts will always go to existing Swift drivers who've been with the company a while. The earliest you are considered for any dedicated account is after three months OTR, at least for drivers that go through Swift training and are assigned their own truck.

So a driver interested in a dedicated account with them would go to orientation thinking they will have a dedicated job and when they actually do get to orientation, they get the news that they have to do OTR? Nice. And the driver finds this out after they have just left their previous job.HmmmWestern flyer Thanks this.

I wouldn't be surprised if that would be the drill, and likely not exclusive to Swift. Before quitting any job I would rather take vacation or a leave, attend orientation, and get the real scoop before giving notice to my old company. During my orientation there were a handful of experienced drivers, a couple of which were disgruntled because what their recruiter told them didn't jive with what they were being told at orientation. While none of them were promised dedicated runs and I can't recall what their particular beefs were, I would certainly want to have my bases covered before taking a flying leap with a new company.
Get an offer in writing if you can. Bear in mind recruiters likely don't make final decisions regarding placement with dedicated accounts, each account is managed by someone and that's the person you really need to be talking to. -
I believe the refrigerated account is for the new Winco foods DC they built behind the Phoenix HQ Terminal

Making $.23 a mile for a dedicated account just doesn't sound fun to me. My buddy is a lease op for them on their Chrysler dedicated, and he makes good miles and all, but when he runs those Costco loads or whatever, you sit and wait till the store is ready to unload you. It's retarded. I could not be a van driver because I hate grocery stores and crap like that. Don't get me wrong, flatbedding goes to Home Depots and crap like that, but I'd pick that over a #### grocery store anyday.

Last year Ocala saw a Millington graduate offered dedicated at the end of orientation.

Swift is now digging into Central's freight . I have been seeing lots of Swift trucks pulling Central trailers , then they tell us freight is slow . Hahahaha bull #### !!!!!!!!!

Well, you're already owned by them, go over to swift and stay busier?

That is a job service add on craigslist.
The head hunter gets spiffed a fee or % for every driver she refers to Swift.
I am sure it is the same old hiring routine at Swift: Show up to free orientation, live in the truck with derelict mentor for 6-8 weeks, and then drive OTR. If you meet the right profile you will find a nice dedicated. Otherwise, will be kissing arse to sit a the bottom of the totem pole for crappy dedicated.scottied67 Thanks this.
