Sitting at Kenworth in Olathe to get the rest of my truck issues resolved. Funny thing is one of the guys that was at KW in OKC when I was was just here today too. Got more trip sheets and EFS checks, followed up on lost utilization and breakdown payouts, and got the truck washed. It was nice to catch up with Bubbles and my truck looks great. So many trailers got redtagged today that they ran out of gladhand locks, LOL. Just a heads up to anyone coming to the yard, US 169 is blocked both ways under the overpass when you get off 35 and you have to detour on 151st street while they do construction work.

Whatever you do take the truck back. Tell your dispatcher it's not working out and they need to t-call you to the terminal with or without a load.
You won't hurt their feelings. They've heard it thousands of times.
If you abandon, and later you decide you want to give driving another shot...you don't want that ogre hanging over you.
Driving otr is certainly not for everyone.
If you don't feel halfway good about yourself and what you're doing, it just makes the days and miles go by even slower.
Good luck with whatever you decide is best.HometimeQueen Thanks this. -
krazyhorsechick, where are you? You need to at least let us know that you are alright.

Well, the Waco to OK load DID in fact leave gamma going to Cali, he just got swapped off Indiana and got a load out of Amarillo to Cali

^ That's cool. Once you work past a few issues, I very much like the California run. The issues are:
1) Colorado chain law, in effect until May 31 (at TransAm, we don't chain up, or carry chains). An issue if they send you to the Denver area after Cali (on both my runs they did).
2) Very limited overnight parking/truck stops at LA sites
3) Both times I made the run, there was 24 hours between delivery and next pick up.
If you let us know more details of what the requirements of your guy's run is (pre plan after California), I can add my two cents on how dealt with those issues. Cranky Pete now has California expertise that I am sure he can add.
Have your guy get his AMBEST/AMBUCK$ card (reward card for a bunch of otherwise independent truck stops). It usually comes in handy for shower credits on the California run.

Right now not sure. He thinks he may be getting ready for a swap, he has hometime next week and they said they wanted to keep him close so not sure if he will be going all the way or not. I will certainly keep you guys posted I know we both love all the input and advice from y'all here. Should know more in the morning about what he'll have to do, I believe he said Remington, CA is where the load is going (I haven't got the info wrote down yet)
passport220 Thanks this. -
<Yuck> I dislike that place, but your right. Several other places called "truck stops" in Southern Cali, but they are really only fuel stops with no truck parking.
Both times I showered up and went shopping in Barstow so I could just camp out in one of the few parking spots in LA so I could avoid driving back out to Ontario.Last edited: May 6, 2014
