How does everyone deal with a difficult forklift driver?
Ex. Refuse to load or unload shipment because of breaks or close to quitting time or just sick of working.

Don't tell me call the broker because that does work or get you paid any extra.

Piss him off and he will damage your equipment. Be nice to him and hope that he will be nice to you.

I worked at a place one time that had a fork lift driver who was always cranky. And I mean cranky. Didn't matter what driver came in he was always an ####### to them. Moral of the story? Sometimes there is nothing you can do. That guy had so many complaints to management, but he never got fired. Why? Because he was one of the only fork lift drivers that showed up on time.

I can imagine this scenario is replicated quite easily across one of the many warehouses in the United States. I would say just try talking to the guy, but honestly, most fork lift ops are kind of salty in my opinion. That's why they are fork lift ops--because they probably thought they wouldn't ever have to deal with people.

A couple $20 bills may be in order. I have had to do that from time to time, usually works.

When they don't want to unload me in a timely manner i just tell them ''It's no problem, I can come back in a couple weeks'' All of a sudden they find time everytime :D.

I never used money. Was afraid they'd get used to it. I have gotten a long way with a beverage, though. Ice cold water or soda or cup of hot coffee or cocoa. "Man it's hot (or cold) out here! I can't believe you work in this all day. I'm gonna get a [whatever]. You want one? On me." That kinda thing.

Same principle but there's something about buying someone a Coke (or whatever) that goes a little farther than money if you're gonna see them again. Plus some folks might take the money offer as a bribe or insult - but offer them a beverage? That's just being nice.

i ran a forklift for a short while right out of high school at a building products supply place. and there was always this flatbed driver who delivered trim that was always yelling not to bump his trailer....... I always bumped it and said ooops only cause he whined all the time and was in a hurry. dudes got a crappy job bring him a box of doughnuts next time.
