truck vs motorcycle

Thoughts and prayers for the family. Also the driver because he is screwed.

 

From the looks of it, it may not be the drivers fault. Yes I do ride also so I know and understand the timing of the two. If the bike hit at the tandems it was a good 8-10 seconds that the truck was committed into the turn. Seems like the bike was going to fast or thought he could time the truck clearing the intersection.

 

I agree, how could the biker have not seen the big white wall pulling out in his path?

 

The rider could have left his turn signal on, big truck thought he was turning...that happened to me once while riding 4 wheeler pulled right out in front of me.

IME, ~100K miles (each) on motor and bicycles, most bike riders know little to nothing about counter-steering, and never "practice". He prolly saw it, was unprepared/unequipped to do anything about it.

When I raced bicycles one exercise included slow races, first one to the finish line loses. It is amazing how that practice transfers to riding with control at speed.

We used to flatten a pop can and practice stopping on it, and sliding on our front tires. Riders who crash rarely come in first.

Why are you so quick to think the trk driver is at fault?No light at that intersection.A semi making a turn is slower then molasses.My guess is the bike was going to fast.Out of all the motorist on our roads,bikes make me the most nervous.

 

It appears to be a crotch rocket and folks by them for speed. I don't believe I have ever seen one anywhere near the speed limit, ever. So I would speculate the bike was 100% at fault if the account was he passed a pickup just before crashing, maybe the pickup was slowing to turn and flashed the driver to come out and make his turn.
