Yep, or the 9 truck wreck in 2012...

    http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/state&id=8857248

Both these wrecks happened because of excess speed on rain slick roads. Both were caused by truckers driving out of control. The speed limit in that tunnel is now 45 mph, but frequently truckers are blowing through that sharp downhill curve inside the tunnel at well over 60 mph while tailgating each other.

Another wreck happened here last night(Truck bypass I-5 south @ CA-14) at that blind curved tunnel. At approximately 11:45 PM Wednesday night 2/26th a Brent Redmond Trans truck jackknifed while taking curve to fast in raining conditions. A UPS double and Conway driver plowed into disable BRT truck.

A couple miles south of there on the 210 the news had a video of a Complete Logistics Company (CLC) truck losing control in the rain and plowing into a disabled 4-wheeler on the shoulder. The news was interviewing the passengers of the 4-wheeler and luckily the were not inside the car but walked up the embankment to a safer location. They were on the phone with 911 when the CLC driver hit their vehicle.

If you are on 60 eastbound in riverside do you take the truck bypass?

We ran that early this week eastbound to continue on the 60 to catch I-10, we didn't take the truck bypass and a lot of trucks weren't. Our normal run would head up I-15 to catch I-40 east toward the midwest or Atlantic states, but since that bridge burned down we headed east to exit 192 and then north to catch the 95 to I-40. I always love that drive.

You guys are missing the real reason for truck bypass in Ca. It's to keep trucks OFF the regular road, which is a bridge. The "bypass" is on ground level. Less weight on the bridge means it will last a long, long time. How about this, do you know the mile markers are on the call boxes you see along the freeways ? (in Ca.) For instance, I-40 between Barstow and Needles. The numbers on a callbox might be 40/813. 40 is the highway number (I-40) and 813 is the mile marker, including tenths. (81.3) This is only for the county you are currently in. They change for each county.

This is running north on 177 after taking the Desert Center exit off of I-10 at exit 192. From here head east on 62 and then north on 95 to I-40. I LOVE taking this route instead of going north on I-15 and then east on I-40 if I'm departing from Riverside or any points east or southeast of there.

This is during the "rush hour".... ;)
