it appears that the last owner did some hacking to the wiring for the stereo and then tried to put the factory stereo back in and didn't wire it up right... im trying to find a wiring diagram to put this back the way it should be.. I know im asking a lot but a good clear diagram with the color codes would help... thanks in advance jeff

Have you tried digging further under the dashboard for another connector to the system. These trucks are pretty modular and you may be able to replace that entire section of the harness.
-
If he tried to put the old plug-in back in wouldn't it already be color coded?

Sounds like the previous owner cut the factory connector from the truck to wire in a different stereo.

aftermarket stereos are better anyways. the junk units they put in these trucks aren't worth the silicone they were printed on

So true. The factory one in my Pete would whine while using the aux in port.
My Alpine just hooks up to my ipod or ipad and sounds so much better. Need better speakers, though. -
You wouldn't happen to know where I can find the 587 version. they changed letters to numbers, and all speaker wires are green with black line. go figure. German plug, Mexico radio.
